what is the difference between wiring your subs in parellel-parallel, series-parallel, and series series??? just looking at audiobahns page

its all about resistance.......ohms, number of subs, independence........stability of the amplifier.....

if you need specific help post what subs (ohm rating) and amplifier you are considering.....

im working with 2 audiobahn aw1200q'* DVC rated at 700rms. right now i dont have the amp i going to use. im just messing around with my home system right now. the amp i am going to get is prolly an audiobahn A8002T 2 channel and run it at 400 watts RMS x 2 @ 2 ohms. the DVC is really confusing me right now. i hook it up how audiobahn tells me, and it works very quietly, but then i unhook one voice coil and it gets way louder??

This usually describes wireing for more than 2 subs. Electrically, when speakers are wired in series the impedance is added. When they are wired in parallel, the impedance is divided in half (assuming that all resistance is equal). Pairing off the subs into two pairs of two you can acheive the following (this assumes that you are using 4 ohm subs) :

1st pair parallel=2 ohm; 2nd pair parallel=2 ohm; combined in parallel=1 ohm load
1st pair parallel=2 ohm; 2nd pair series=8 ohm; combined in parallel=1.6 ohm load
1st pair series=8 ohm; 2nd pair series=8 ohm; combined in parallel=4 ohm load

1st pair parallel=2 ohm; 2nd pair parallel=2 ohm; combined in series=4 ohm load
1st pair parallel=2 ohm; 2nd pair series=8 ohm; combined in series= 10 ohm load
1st pair series=8 ohm; 2nd pair series=8 ohm; combined in series= 16 ohm load

This example shows 6 different configurations of the subs. Choose one that fits the amps capibilities best. Please note though that when an amp is bridged, it will "see" half of the total impedance. You don't want to connect a one ohm load to a brigded output. The amp is seeing .5 ohms. POP!

All of this can be changed with subs with different impedance too. Some have 8 ohms, some 6. So make sure you spend some time planing to optimize your system.

so the subs are dual 4 ohm voice coils........and your looking at a 2 channel amp thats stable at 2 ohms.......you're on the right track.

so basically u have a couple options wiring wise.....you could run each sub down to 2 ohms and run the amp at 2 ohm stereo.......then u would be getting 400x2 with the specificied amp above..

you could also run series parallel i believe....but running each sub up to 8 ohms, then run them in series to the amplifier.....you would be running 4 ohms mono at that point....all a preference if you want stereo or not.

but if these subs are rated at 700watts RMS each....i'd try bumping up the watts a little. Ultimate Electronics has a sale on BD1000'* this week.......get 1 for each sub

the thing is i already got the subs, someone had a pair of these in a box for $100, thats a killer deal, they are 179 each on audiobahns site. but yeah, with the amp, its all in the air. what do you got?

Don't run a channel to each voice coil!

They play on the same motor, and will fight each other. 400w RMS will not be optimal for 700 RMS subs.

Check your polarity. It'* critical with more than 1 sub (or voice coil).
Opposing waveforms are bad, unless you don't want to hear anything.
