Default Remote starter/alarm: Suggestions welcome

With winter coming up and this Regal being a DD that will be out in the parking lot at work most of the time, I'm seriously considering a starter. The only two criteria are: I wouldn't want to go with a second remote, which them makes me aim toward an alarm/starter combo. And I'm on the 5th floor and a decent walk to the car. See pic. Yes the car is out there.

I figure one of the 1 mile range ones should do the trick. Not looking for a million features since the car is a 2K Buick Regal it'* not high on the target list and most of the places i park are either gated or not considered high crime areas.
Not sure what to consider for brands etc. I'm interested in what you've heard of as good brands, reliability w/o issues is one of the most important things to me.

DEI makes most of the alarms out there. You'll probably want to go with something made by Viper or the like, but have a look at their website and see for yourself.

http://www.directed.com/

From my experience, and talking to people who install these for a living, DEI makes the best alarm and remote start systems in the industry.

I had a Bulldog Security alarm/keyless entry in my 96 and it caught on fire about 2 years after I put it in.

I also had a DEI (not a Viper system) remote start in my 02 alero and it never gave me any problems.

Here'* the first thread I found searching for Bulldog Security systems, which confirms what you said about them:

Find a company made by DEI.

I would go with a 2 way Viper system, I love mine. Has a one mile range and all kinds of cool extras besides being an alarm/remote start

oh one of my favorite features, you can set the remote to tell you the temp of the inside of the car when you remote start it. I never went out to a cold car. and if you find a good installer the system will turn on the windshield vents and your rear defroster if the temp is below 32 degrees

Went and did some research. Looked over a few different 1 mile ones and think it'* coming up to the Viper 5902. Only thing I find odd is that the window module only controls two darn windows. I'd want to control 5, cause heck, all the cool kids have a sunroof.

And while the "control your car from your phone" is cool, it'* not worth $20+ a month. They must be crazy on that price.

Anyone have places to get them for the best prices?

You are going to want to make sure at that distance your remote is two way (confirms somehow when the car starts).

I've got an Autostart AS-3472 in mine. It'* got a little backlit lcd screen that tells you whether the car is locked or unlocked, how long the car has left to run, lets you put it into valet mode and cold weather mode through the remote, you can hook up temperature monitoring to it. 3000ft range, has an aux button you could use to trigger something else with, alarm can be attached to it. The AS-6850 has a bigger screen and can warn you when the alarm is set off, but otherwise the same features.

I asked a friend about their viper remote and they said they were very happy with it. Great range, only problem was that they had to have it reprogrammed once. No big deal, I've reprogrammed mine a couple times, and either it or the bypass module likes to lock up sometimes after I tune. Luckily I made that fuse very accessible.

The 5902 is two way and has all the bells. I'm on to trying to find it at the best price. I'd be doing the install, as I'm picky about how wiring is hooked up. Solder hasn't failed me yet, unlike those clip on connectors that tear half the wire up. Install once and have a good reliable result.

Anyone have secret places to get it at great pricing?

Thanks Jon.

Cost plus shipping total is looking like $324 is about the best I've found. Then add on a window module or three. Anyone know if I should be able to add on more than one window module?
