Oppinions needed!!! Which route to go bass wise???
 

Alright, here's the deal: I'm wanting to upgrade the bass a bit while retaining the factory system completely, no other upgrades at all, just a sub and amp in the trunk. So heres the question, I'm looking at two different routes in roughly the same price range:

1) 10" Infinity Basslink

2) 10" Rockford Fosgate Sub/Amp combo from Crutchfiled, and I can find a decent enclosure for it on ebay for ~40 shipped

Which of these will produce better bass. Will I notice more/louder bass out of choice #2? Basically I'm not wanting to get crazy, obviously from the 2 choices that I've listed, but I do want to know that I've got some extra thump back there. I'm a little concerned with going the Basslink route only because I read a review on crutchfield where the customer placed the unit in his trunk and was unsatisfied with the results (I know a couple of members here have the basslink unit, this would be an excellent time for them to chime in!!).

Space isnt really a concern, but it's why I'm only going with a 10" single sub instead of 2 subs or something larger, I dont want to waste space in my trunk, I do use her as my grocery getter! Any insight is greatly appreciated. I'm not looking to spend more than $300 total for this setup, is there another route that maybe I should be looking into? Thanks in advance.

i guess you said you don't want 2 subs, but at bestbuy this week, they have 2 10" subs, an amp, and a box for the same price as crutchfield has for one sub and an amp w/o a box.........................

the Rockford sub should have more bass than the basslink, but you're going to use quite a bit more trunk space with the Rockford though. The basslink takes up relatively little room in the trunk and it can be controlled completely from the unit itself. It's also auto turn-on. I hear that the Basslink II is quite a ibt better than the Basslink that all the members on here have. I have the original basslink and hte bass quality is really good for how small it is. It sounds comparable to most lower-end 12" subs in bass quanitity. I have never heard the basslink distort either, it automatically adjusts the amplifier output if it detects distortion through its servo control.

Hmmm, what if we did throw this in the equation as choice #3? It looks like they're using the same amp, would the two 10"s produce a better sound than the single with the same power being pushed to them?? I checked my local bestbuy and they dont have these in stock. Would I be happier with this opposed to the Basslink?

I would go with the basslink over the RF stuff. Given the options you thought of, that is what I would do.

You have to take a couple of things into consideration before buying either one. Do you forsee any other "Upgrades" down the road? If so, the RF set up will allow you to do so because you can change each individual component ie: sub upgrade, box upgrade, or amp upgrade without necessarily having to buy all three at once. Also an amp can run in different ohm loads to accommodate your subs. ie: 2 ohm 4 ohm 4 ohm bridged ect.......

The bass link has all of the components in one package, so if you wanted to upgrade down the road for whatever reason, you would be asking yourself this question again, and will have to buy a bigger powered sub unit or box, subs, and amp.

IMO I like RF but even though, I cant tell you how many times I upgraded my system just because I didnt like the results and wanted more power and better sound.

EDIT: I took too long to reply, but yes 2 tens will sound better because your getting twice the cone surface area than one ten.

All very true except one thing. Sound quality has nothing to do with the surface area of the subs. It is completely due to the choice of subs.

Would the basslink have better overall sound quality than the RF's?

I'll use my system as an example.

My first subs (40$) where decent, got to a point where they wouldn't hit the low freq. then I fried them.

2nd set: JL audio 10W08. Deep, nice sounding and very clear compared to the MTX's. Pounded REALLY hard. (gave them to a friend)

Current set: my friends old pioneer subs. These things sound like complete a$$ even compared to the MTX's.

They were all 10" subs. all in the same boxes, which meet the specs for all the subs.

therefor proving SQ has nothing to do with surface area.

total output is related to surface area, because you can move more air. But if you can't move it correctly it will sound like a$$
