Upgrading speakers, what size and what can I use?
Well, after thorough consideration, I've decided to upgrade my front 2 and rear 2 speakers. I have the 8 speaker system with the gain slider, and will not be upgrading the tweeters, unless there are ones that will fit. My questions are -
1 - What size is the front round speakers?
2 - What size is the rear speakers?
3 - What is involved with getting new speakers installed? (I can solder obviously and such)
4 - What is the best bang for my buck?
I am only looking for speakers slightly better than the OEM ones, I am not into subs, amps, 20 speakers, etc. I prefer to keep the system as stock as possible, as all I listen to is my 80s music and classic rock. So, any suggestions?

Re: Upgrading speakers, what size and what can I use?
1 - What size is the front round speakers? 5.25, although some people have modified 6.5" to work
2 - What size is the rear speakers?6x9
3 - What is involved with getting new speakers installed? (I can solder obviously and such)front: taking off the door panels and using a screwdriver
rear: dropping the speakers from inside the trunk with a clip, very easy
4 - What is the best bang for my buck? you will get many options on this, and since you are only looking for slightly better than OEM, I suggest just going to walmart/best buy and listening to the cheaper ones and getting them

Your factory head unit would blow the Durabrand speakers to shreads.
Then there is also the factory amp in the SSE/SSEi to take them out even sooner.
At the very least they will not compare to the not so great factory speakers.
If you are willing to spend a few bucks ($80-100 total) go on ebay and try to find some Infinity speakers. I had them in my old 98 SSE with BOSE and it blew my mind considering that I had only swapped the rear 6x9'* for Infinity 6953i 3-ways and switched the front 5.25'* for Alpine Type * 2-ways.

I had something like that years ago and was very satisfied.
Definitely listen to them first. I'd recommend taking a cd with you so and listening to a couple of different pairs. You want the same song form the same source for a fair comparison.
Remember, though, they will sound different in a car and on a different head unit.
