Ressurecting a slightly dusty topic for an update. Love the HU, but decided to play with a new feature now that WCBF is over. This HU has a reverse trigger wire that detects when you are in R, and turns on a rear vid camera (seperate input) if you want it. I hooked up the old camcorder to test it with (56 degree view). Cameras on ebay for this purpose typically have twice the width of view.

Beer bottles are 10 feet behind the car, 10 feet apart. a 120 degree view for 30 bucks on ebay with IR night illumination would be twice as wide:

The cat, walking 6' behind my car:

I might actually pop for one of the cameras on ebay. Leaning towards the one that is built into a license plate frame. This feature is totally automatic when you put the car in reverse if you run the trigger wire to the reverse light circuit. I'll power the camera off the same line.

Shameless plug of the Zilla Cockpit with the HU installed:

Imagine this at night with tinted windows, but a low-light wide-angle camera.

holy. now THATS what i call a cockpit. That is INSANE. Score of 10+.

That head unit really adds a bit of snazz to the whole thing. Quite a nice tied together package.

I've still got some cleanup to do there. I need to RE-hardwire my Gtech, and run the serial cable around to the passenger side to hide it until I need to DL it.
