THE BIG QUESTION
According to the dealer I just bought my 2004 SE from... the last owner cut the "ribbon cable" to the radio connector and installed an aftermarket Radio. The dealer tried to fix the problem, but the wiring harness was too expensive so they did there best to salvage the wires and install a new After/Market Stereo... SO
Is this good information of is my dealer losing his mind?

History
I just recently purchased a 2004 Bonneville SE. I always loved the Steering wheel audio controls on Buicks and Pontiacs, but the car I ended up with has an aftermarket radio/CD player. Of couse my steering wheel controls do not work. So I am bummin'
I would rather have a stock radio that works with my steering wheel. (I know this sounds crazy) Anyway, I pulled the dash bezel and was not excited to see the hatchet job the "Certified" Audio Installation "Professional" did installing the cheap Clarion Aftermarket stereo.
All of the original connections have been cut and the original radio adapter is gone. I found an original Radio/CD/Cassette deck on Ebay for $70... So now I wanted to get this back to how it was before it was mollested by the last owner.
Is my idea crazy? Anyone have an old connector or know how I can find one? I think this is the connector I am talking about if my terms are confusing.

UPDATE: SO it looks like I don't know what I am talking about. The A/M Radio does have an option for a remote even though I do not have the remote to program the PAC unit. Maybe I can get it to work. I will read some more. The after Market stereo is a Clarion DXZ275MP

I have decided to just bag this idea. I will stick with the aftermarket. I will leave the steering wheel buttons unconnected and drive this car til the doors fall off.

Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Stuff like that really bugs me too! There are connectors available to allow for installation of aftermarket radios by plugging onto the factory connector. Using these allows people to revert back later if they wish. Sounds like they either don't know their business very well (didn't realize they exist), or they didn't really care. It also may have been the last owner who told them to just go ahead and cut it and not the fault of the shop. The connectors I'm referring to aren't stocked at very many places and it likely would have meant waiting before the stereo could be installed. Some customers are impatient and wouldn't be willing to wait.
There are options (as you've discovered) to add the functionality of steering wheel controls to aftermarket radios. There are lots of users here who have done this. My experience is limited to stock equipment, but I'm sure someone will step up if you still need some assistance.
By the way, the part in your original post is correct. It'* called a Dock-N-Lock connector. It was only used in a few GM vehicles including certain models years of Bonneville, LeSabre, Park Avenue and Aurora (I think that'* all of them).
