need help with figuring out box tuning for midbass
 

im using the koda 6 midbass and i have a pair of ample audio exonic components, the amples go down to 80hz here is a link for the info with the koda 6 http://www.adireaudio.com/mobile_aud...ers/koda_6.htm
any input on this would be appriciated, i have some knowledge of ts peramiters, but i dont really thoroughly understand them, the crossover for the components will be 36 db/octave and it will be 18 db/octave for the kodas what size box would u reccomend and what kind of crossover points would u reccomend

Well I'm not to familar with your ample audio exonic components, what kind of crossover settings do you have? Is it a 2 way or 3 way? Didn't say that your new midbass drivers come with there own crossovers, did they?

Now I'm not an expert on this by any means but I'm guessing that you want to have the midbass play the 80 or 100 up to 300-500 hz. have the midrange play above and your subs below. I'm pretty sure on the 80-100 setting just not sure on how high to have the midbass play up too.

As for box size for them, that link said they were tested free-air. I personally would try to make an enclosure for them. Get a tighter response out of them.

Also where you plan on installing these? Getting kicks made?

im not sure where im gunna put them yet, i need to know more about the box building part so i can find out, also the box size helps to determine what freaquencies they will play

Did you try contacting the company itself and ask them what size do they recommend, if your are going to build an enclosure for the speaker. As for the midbass I tend to set mine no lower than 80 & no higher than 200.

well the reason i bought this one is because its able to go down to about 70hz and all the way up to around 5000hz i might tune the box to around 65 or 70 hz, but i want to get ahold of a few more reviews before i make any decisions

Just curious why do you want to tune them so low? 65 too low IMO. Just to get things straight here, you have 6.5in comps and your new midbass. You don't want to play your mid bass to 5000, way to high, that's if you wanted to run it as your mid along with a tweet to x over at 5K. Since you now have basicly 3way componets now, you want the mid bass to play just the mid bass notes, 80-100 up to 200-500. I see that your selling your 15's, what are you getting to replace them with? That will help decide where you want to x-over too.

the whole reason i bought these is because they can go as low as about 70 hz and the fact that they have a wide range, if u look at the graph on that chart ull see that they still get decent response at 100hz in an anechoic chamber, when i put them in the proper enclosure, and cross them over right, they'll drop lower down to about 70hz and have a flater response curve, while still being light and quick enough to go up really high, all i have to do now is figure out what size box will get them to do that.

You can do it if you want, but you'll get a cleaner sound with 20-80/80-500 or 1000/1000-whatever whatever-20k

Otherwise you're still moving the woofer @ 70hz, which really F's up the 5000hz frequencies.
