need help asap

Hi I know most of u know me but anyways I just bought a jensen flip out monitor and I have my whole dash torn apart is there at best buy or anywere that has a quick connect wire harness and also do I just ground the parking brake wire to metal so I can watch movies or how does that work

GMMuscle91 02-03-2009 08:38 PM

yes, best buy or other car audio stores should have the correct wiring harness you need. as for the parking brake thing im not quite sure how that works, but best idea would be to put that on a switch so if you get pulled over u can flip the switch so u dont get popped for watchin movies while drivin. ik my brother did that, not for sure how tho. some other members should know.

midolds88 02-03-2009 08:49 PM

Well I got the harness all together works awesome I just need someone to figure out for me how to rig up that parking brake negative cable I'm wondering if a ground will work I just don't want to try it and have it blow my tv or something

GMMuscle91 02-03-2009 08:56 PM

yea ik wat you mean. if your parking brake isnt too touchy you could just drive around with it one click up and that will work. but im not sure how to hook it up the right way and dont wanna giv out bad info and have it mess sumthin up. good luck though.

midolds88 02-03-2009 09:14 PM

Yeah I know what you mean also there's a wierd wire that says reverse on it I'm guessing that probably if you have a back up camera so it turns on

GMMuscle91 02-03-2009 09:17 PM

yep reverse wire is for backup camera. you might be able to find out how to hook up the parking brake online somewhere. search it on google or sumthin. might get lucky

If someone could please post about this it would be greatly appreciated well I searched yahoo answers and they told me to ground it to a bolt but I'm just worried about grounding it and it having like a 12 volt current to it or something and watching my tv burn out

Well, there is two wires that come off the parking brake that cause the light to come on when the pedal is depressed. Find the negative wire and splice the wire that goes to the connection on the stereo. That will cause the DVD function to work.

midolds88 02-04-2009 08:29 AM

Yeah but I wanted to use the dvd without having to have the e brake down just someone please tell me if I can ground it cuz right now the screen won't even show the audio stuff cuz the ebrake isn't down and the reverse wire is for the reverse camera correct someone please help

The problem here is what your asking isn't about the Bonneville, it's about the unit your installing. We can't say for sure what hooking up that wire will do. If I had to take a guess, it's looking for a signal saying, yes, the parking brake is now on. If it were just a ground then you could connect it anywhere. Is there a wiring diagram with the unit? If you can scan that in and post it here we may have a better chance of helping you.

Also, keep in mind there's a reason why it wants the parking brake on to work. I understand why you want to bypass this, but the law is the law.

grounding the wire should work, I have done some installs and tried 12v+ and ground, no harm done to connect the wrong thing, but I seriously reccomend a switch that will control it, all it would have to be is a small toggle from Radioshack

tlsheff 02-04-2009 05:23 PM

hehe... everyone is forgetting to ask the obvious... do you have a volt meter?

if it has voltage... DONT GROUND IT...
if not... id say your ok

but as dan said... we do not condone breaking the law... pushing the limit but not breaking it hehe... if it was me, id wire it correctly, tap the brake enough to let it click and use it when i wanted to drive while watching something but bewarned that causes wrecks

crunkfrunk 02-04-2009 05:46 PM

well as soon as you put it on to open the switch the BRAKE light will turn on and if he has the graphical DIC it will say Parking Brake Set I think

midolds88 02-04-2009 09:53 PM

Yeah I understand what u guys are saying about the laws and all. But I mainly got it for my son he's two and he just hates being in the car and also my e brake doesn't just barely click it has to go all the way down to lock and I talked to a guy at best buy and he told me to hook it up to the ground on the ebrake wire but what I don't understand is how is there a current coming from the ground to let the radio know the e brakes down if there's no power coming from a ground or a signal the guy told me though that the e brake wire is just a negative wire so I'm guessing I could just run it to a negative connection some were on the car

crunkfrunk 02-04-2009 10:08 PM

there should be 2 wires on the park brake switch, 1 will lead to ground and the other has nothing when the switch is open, a test light would help on that one, but if you can test one and its not right just switch, or just look for a ground somewhere, even the head unit ground
