Default DMM and remote turn on

ok guys.... i switched stuff again.... heh no more XXX 15.... i went to a memphis mojo 15 MUCH louder.. my question is this... my 2000x amp wont turn on via the remote lead... pulled the radio and checked continuity with my DMM sounded the all fine bell.. but the amp still will not turn on, when i use a jumper wire from +12v to rem it works fine, the only logical reason to me is that the cd player is not sending a turn on signal... correct? is it possible for the DMM to give me an audible cont. alert and be WRONG? what i dont understand is we pulled the amp out yesterday, and it was workin fine, put it back in today and its not workin

Just for clairification sake; when you say that you checked for Continuity with your DMM, Did you put one lead (from the meter) on the remote wire at the deck and the other at the remote wire at the amp ?
As strange as this is, I've seen Continuity lie before when checking for blown fuses.
I've gone through whole fuse panels in cars twice in a row looking for a bad fuse and finally end up pulling the fuses one by one, just to find one blown. I don't know how this is possible but its happened to me a couple of times.

Try checking the remote wire with the Ohms setting but you will have to disconnect it from the Amp and the HU or you will be reading the impedence of the circuit. You should be getting no more than 4 Ohms or resistance max.

Make sure your Rem wire isn't pinched cause the HU only puts out 250 - 500 mv for a turn on lead

Is this a new Amp or the same one ?

I have heard of HU blowing the REM lead before. Not common but I hear it does happen from time to time.

Off topic but what are you doing with the XXX?

you should be checking for DC voltage and not continuity. If you see a 12v output behind the radio, then you know its the remote wire. If there is no voltage, disconnect the wire and test again. If the voltage appears, then its likely grounding out some where and pulling down the remote output. More than likely however, the output will remain dead meaning the transistor driving that output is probably fried. If you want to you can connect the remote wire to the accessory turn on lead if you don't feel like having the deck replaced or serviced.
