Default Can tune do volume? A switch swapping story.

I have two OEM radios, a 93 CD and a 93 cassette, and both have broken volume switches. I dug into them only to find that the volume and tune switches are the same numbers. The light bulb appeared above my head and the idea of taking the tune switch out of the cassette unit and replacing the volume switch in the CD unit was born. Although the two switches that are on the same board are the same number, they are different from board to board. 9309MAL for the CD and 9305MAL for the cassette.

What are the chances that the switch swap will work?

Physical properties look close.. Maybe one rotates farther than the other?

LOL! No, it'* just fine. If this works I guess my next topic will be "Can a 93 CD player go into a 90 and still retain steering wheel controls?"

Justin, you're right. I successfully transplanted the tune switch to the CD player and it works great. Even the mute function works!

The bad news is that it does not work with the steering wheel controls. As soon as it is plugged in, the radio will not accept any input from either the steering wheel OR the ***** on the radio. It displays strange things like the freq of a station that you are not even on, ect. Come to think of it, the climate controls didn't even work from the wheel. It does, however, control the dimming of the ECC head as it should. Because of this, I'm going to explore the electrical differences between the two and try to make it work. I have a spare set of radio controls and a column to do some testing.

There is a wire you need to cut... someone knows which one.
