Default My audio dilema

As some of you may know I recently installed 2 10" MTX subs and a JBL amp into the bonneville. I love them. But everything else in the audio system on the car is what is failing me.

1 the display for the stock HU is out. THe lights on the HU work but the LCD display doesn't. I will admit it makes for an interesting time figuring out what station you are on.

2 The speakers in the car are on thier last leg. The front 5 1/4" speakers distort and crackle when the bass hits at a certain freq. and then they just distort at certain freq. when the bass is not on. (they distort at different freq for when the bass hits and on their own)

My problem:

1 money (I just sunk 300 into subs) and until spring I am w/o a job. (gf'* are expensive) And while I might get a little money for the HU everything is on me.(cheap *** parents)

2 I don't want to loose my steering wheel controls. (if I get an aftermarket HU)

3 All the speakers in the car need to be replaced (the rear 6x9'*) and front 5 1/4" (I would replace the tweeters if I am at it) which brings me back to #1.

What would you guys do?

I would say that you should replace the speakers, it prolly sounds like crap now, so go and replace them

you still can have your steering wheel controls with a aftermarket headunit BTW

How can I find out what HU works with the controls? I have gotten a lot of responses from people on other forums to just forget about the steering wheel controls but I really like them.

any HU'* that are known to work with stock controls?

I've never seen one of those before. Pretty sweet. So the remote and steering wheel controls work. I think that just made me what an aftermarket HU. although I do love the 7 band EQ also but I think I could live w/o that.

I wonder if I can pick up some display stuff from circuit city or best buy or similar as the 2005 stock comes in and replaces the 2004 stuff.

I think if ur going to buy and aftermarket head unit u should go with an alpine or a clarion. Ive owned both and they have both been great. As for Alpine'* CDA-9831 its a good choice. Just remember not to spend more than u have to.
