Looking for a Sirius Tuner for my 97
 

As part of the upgrade I have planned for the audio system, im looking to purchase a Sirius reciever for the car but I dont know anything about them or their features.

Im looking to hook right into an Aux input on the HU so Im not looking for anything that transmits through the radio or anything.

No one has any opinions on Sirius Satelite????

I have Sirius Starmate 4, its a nice unit with plenty of options, never had any problems with it. You can get a cable to plug it into your HU's AUX in port. I just use FM Transmitter so i don't know about the AUX.

I was looking at that exact one on ebay. Im assuming its a newer model since its a bit higher in price than the other generation Siruis Receivers.

Is it hard to set up the antena at all? Also, hows the reception when using the FM Transmitter?

Its not hard to set up at all... Sometimes the FM transmitting gets a little staticy (sp?) but most of the time its pretty good. I want to hook mine up to a AUX in but i can't do anything to my dads car :roll:
Yea it is one of the "newer" models, its really nice, i would reccomend it. The one thing i don't like is it get's its power from the cigarette lighter...

Well sounds like I might be picking this up soon, once I find out about service and price. But yeah I would rather a AUx input to avoid the static part.

Sirius Starmate Replay

My last one was stolen now I have a sirius INv and it isn't doing it for me .I Will probably pick up another starmate again, I highly recommend it.

What HU do you have or plan on installing ?

Do you just want Sat Radio in the car only ?
If so you can buy the Tuner that matches the brand of your HU and plugs directly into the back of the aftermarket radio.

The other option....if you want to be able to take it out of the car would be to buy a Plug & Play unit like the Sportster, Starmate etc

You can also have these units hardwired under the dash so that you still have your Cig. Lighter free while listening & so that all the wires are hidden.
BestBuy or any stereo shop should be able to do this for you.

Those still only give radio quality, just with out the risk of static due to the area you are in.

For the best SQ he needs to either use teh AUX inputs or if the HU is sirus ready, he could connect it through the HU that way(company dependant and normally not removable)

There is no connection to the AUX input that I know of for Sirius.
They only give 3 choices;

1) RF (Radio Frequency) wireless modulated through a FM station of your choice.

2) The Direct connect switching unit. You unplug the antenna from the back of the radio, plug it into the switching unit and plug its antenna output into the radio. There is another wire from the switching unit that connects to the output of the portable Sat radio.
It is a form of input, just doesn't provide RCA or AUX output from this switching unit.

3) IP Bus direct connect from a Sirius reciever box for use with an aftermarket HU.
Non portable, for in car only and the HU has to be Sirius Ready.

Its stupid that they didn't include more options with the direct connection like RCA or AUX output.

There should be no sound quality lost from option #2 its still a direct input there is no RF. Its just like using an RCA input but you are using the antenna jack instead.
