Default Computer Sub?

Well I have this set of speakers for my computer. Logitech Z-560'*. They came with a 190 watt RMS 10" powered sub. So just for the heck of it, I put it in my trunk, plugged it into an extension cord, and connected the control pod to the pre-outs on my deck. I turned it on and listened to some music, and it sounded absoultely fantastic. For such a small sub, it shook the whole car, and not to mention I had a control pod just for the sub volume and levels.

All I would really need for this to work is a power invertor to plug the sub into. I was just wondering if it would be too much of an electical drain to power the amp/sub with a DC-AC invertor for extended periods of time, or would it be pretty much the same as having a normal car amp and sub?

I don't really use this sub much in my room any more, so moving it to the car would be great...

you could run it, it would take some filters and possibly some voltage regulators to keep it functioning properly

a bazooka tube is basically the same type of subwoofer as that computer speaker.. or even better yet, an Infinity Basslink would be better (although expensive. )

Some power inverters (like the one I have) constantly draw some power while they're in the car'* 12V circuit. But these ones usually have a switch on them.

So if you were to get a switched one, it would be best to switch it off when you turn the car off. As for unswitched ones, I'm not sure what kind of power they draw.

As for running it while the car is going, you're all good, look at some of the HUGE 1000W RMS setups people have running with stock alternators, your standard power inverter & computer sub isn't using near that much juice.

Try a lil different approach....

Just find a 12v car amp in the 200w range
(a wally world special) and use it for your
power needs.

You'd have to tap into the sub'* electronics
for the passive crosover connections
(the speaker connections) since likely
the signal is only passed when "on"
your AC suppily.

But it wouldnt take much to jump (bypass)
the AC amp and feed it from a seperate amp.

Whole lot less trouble and power drain issues
