Life as a stereo in OfnaRcR's car..

When i got the car the front speakers were blown. Lived with that for a while.

Christmas came around(last year) and i asked for some Audiobahn 6x9's(i dont want to hear about their quality, they were cheap and they beat the heck out of Sony speakers) to replace the ones already installed. I had the origional deck in there so i didn't expect to hear much of a diff(and i didn't). After i got some money togeter a week later i got the fronts. I had to get stupid 3.5's. I never really did anything special with them except mount the tweeters on top of the speaker covers as you can see circled here..

After i installed my head unit myself with no previous experiance in any kind of stereo stuff, i wasn't happy with the bass of the new system. The supid 6x9 baskets choked out soooo much bass. I decided to directly mount the speakers to the metal part above as you can see here.

That improved the bass dramatically!
I kept that setup for a long time and i was bored of that and my friend thought it would be a good idea to cut the cardboard hole above the speaker and mount the speaker on top. His worked really well and looked great(1990 lumina). I decided to cut the holes out and mount them. That was a terrible idea. The area back there was not enough to fit the whole speaker and the carpet soaked up some bass(duh). You can see that setup here.

I was really dissapointed with that and i remembered that i built a sub box over the winter in hopes that i would get some subs but i never did. I goe the box designed for 1 RE 12 inch and hand cut 2 holes out of the face. I mounted the speakers inverted and ran a cord out of the port to the tweeters mounted in the back of the car. I tried this out not thinking that it would work so well because the box was soo big. I was wrong! Well is you coud say i was pretty pumped. I went to show my brother who has 2 old Rockford fosgate 10's in a sealed enclosure and they hit way harder than his. Then i showed my friend who has a single sony 12 in his truck(i know it sucks) and it was better than his too. Keep in mind im just running off of the sony HU.

I somehow lost all of the pics but i do have an old crappy vid with a not so good song.

I need an amp!

or if you can find a olds touring sedan with the BOSE....but that is probably a pita to convert.

I had that car before, had infinity 3.5s in the dash and CDT comps in the back, sounded good

Overall i am pretty much happy with my system so far but i could use some more bass up front. Bass that hits your legs from door speakers would be nice.I'm just afraid to cut my carpet because there is no going back after you cut it if it sounds like crap. I wish i could get a little enclosure for some door speakers and have them mounted in good with a grille so it doesn't look too choppy.

You need the plastic brackets like I used on my 91 LE Bonneville... I stole them from an 89 SE with the performance sound system... Everythig was even the right color... Not sure how hard it will be to find the right color for yours tho.. Cutting the pannels was a PITA...

Even the Bose enclosures were designed to clear the window channel... And the performance sound brackets actually place the speaker out a tad from the door, this way the window clears the speaker..

I just did an update to my system. The best yet. Amps. 2 crap Jensen 300 watt amps powering my 6x9's in the box. It is sheer awesomeness. I know its not real subs but its better than my friends sony system (1 21 inch in sealed box with a sony amp). Dont underestimate thoes 6x9's. I am again happy for a little while.
