THEFTLOCK
Well some of the lights on my radio went out and now the whole display just doesn't even show at all. So we got another car in at work and I switched radios cause the car is going to auction anyways. But now in my car the radio display says locked. Is there a way to get the radio to work in my car? Is it something that the dealer has to do or what? Thanks, Brad

Is this on your 2000 SSEi? If so there is nothing YOU can pesonally do about it. The dealer has to correct the problem. On the 2000+ models there is a data link that connects the PCM to other modules throughout the vehicle (12). There are data signal pulses that are sent across this data link. One of these data signals is the vehicle'* VIN number. The radio has the VIN number stored in it as well. Once the radio is powered everytime, the VIN that is stored in the radio is compared to the VIN for the vehicle. If there is any discrepancy at all between the two VIN numbers the radio is locked. The only way to change the VIN entry in the radio you just installed is to take it to a GM dealer where they can use their Tech II to change the VIN value.

I was going to ask a question about this myself.
So as I understand, as long as the same radio goes back into thesame car,the original theftlock radio will work again? Interesting.
I am about to change out the factory theftlock head unit, but wanted to be sure that i could re-install it if we decide to get rid of the car. It sounds as if I can.

Do you know how I go about getting the codes? Dealer only? I don't want to end up not being able to put the stocker back in the car afterwards. I would like to be 100% sure of what I do before I pull the original unit out of the car.

Thanks a bunch for the update. I will have to give this a try one of these weekends. I installed a new head unit in my old Blazer a couple weekends ago, and now my wife is jealous that her car is still stuck with the malfunctioning factory unit.
I'm sure I'll be posting back soon, to try and figure out the whole speaker/factory bass gain feature!
