Default Im dumb speaker question

I have an 88 bonnie without the bose system so it cam with 6 speakers. 4 speaker then 2 tweeters on the dash. I want to change the reciever but Im not sure what im looking for to power all six. When i am reading about them does the channels mean how many speakers? for example 50wx4 channels mean 50 watts to 4 speakers? thanks

The front door speakers and tweeters count as one channel, not two. So a 4 channel amp would power all the replacements. For the proper setup you will need a new head unit with front/rear/sub preamps. That way you can still fade front to rear speakers, and power a sub. Use two amps. One 4 channel amp for the interior speakers and one single or dual channel amp to power a sub/subs.

Best way for you to go is just a mono channel amp to run the sub. If you want a new amp to control all, the sub channel will be listed as ".1" Like 4.1. This means it has 4 channels of stereo and one sub bass channel.

4x6 in the front dash I take it? I would just take those out. Put in a quality component set in the front doors (6 1/2 & tweets) and some quality 6x9s in the rear. Still run them off of a 4 channel amp.

Thanks for the advice that makes picking out a deck easier now.

Remember when looking at a deck look for FRONT/REAR/SUB preamps. This will allow you to still fade front to rear (and rear to front), and run a sub. These cost a little bit more, but they are the tippy top of the line usually.

This is the one I recommend.

Is Kenwood actually any good? I've heard from many installers that if you're going to put down that kind of money, get a Pioneer or a JVC. I've heard that 90% of Kenwood'* amps are overrated, overpriced, underpowered, and just plain suck. I have 3 matching Kenwood amps but supposedly I got the only 3 that are actually decnet.

That being said, I've never used a Kenwood head unit myself, so I'm just wondering here. I would also highly recommend a receiver with 3 pre-outs as mentioned. Its worth the extra money.

Price match around when you do shop. Sonicelectronix is good, and I've had a lot of luck buying from onlinecarstereo.com as well. Most times though, I'll find what I want on one of those two websites, then search for that exact same model number on ebay, and I'll usually find it for $5-$10 cheaper with free shipping. I prefer buying from ebay simply because you can get slightly better prices (sometimes), and you get 2% of your purchase price in ebay bucks which you can use to buy stuff at a later date. Q2 of this year I accumulated $100.70 in ebay bucks, and this last quarter I accumulated $26.85.

Kenwood is outstanding. Their regular stuff is good, and their Exceleon line is even better. I run nothing but Kenwood in my car and it sounds amazing. Just need to add subs now to beef up the bass and I'll be done.
