This is mainly to people who have the gain control slider.. Last night i was in bed and i was thinking.... Instead of spending 1000'* to redo your entire system, why not just replace all speakers to higher quality aftermarket, and with the rears, you could buy one dual voice coil subwoofer, 8 inches or so, and mount it in the center of the rear deck!! This is done in the newer SHO'*. There are some on www.crutchfield.com , and you could wire the sub woofers inputs to the sub outs that come out of the radio and go to the factory dual voice coil paper cones that were originally in the car. You could control the sub with the gain slider control... It wouldn't compare to some of the systems in other cars, but it would be a realistic idea would it not? It would mainly be for the people who want more bass, but don't want it to blow windows as you drive by.. I think that is what i am going to do next
Everything will look stock except the subwoofer unless it'* not visible (under the carpet stuff on the rear deck)

I'll do some measurements and see if it'* feasible, and if so i might just start saving $$$

Wouldnt you still have to add an external amp though? to power the sub? i wouldnt think the factory deck would have enough wattage to make the sub, even an 8 incher push.

yah it wouldnt push it enough you would need more power...and if it did push it then it would be barely anything

True you would have to run a small maybe 100watt amp to run the 8" sub. My friend has this done in this DeVille with a DVC 10" Kicker. He used a 100x1 Pionner amp about the size of a pack of cig'*, and he made a hanging box to hold the sound from the 10" and push it into the car, you would have to put something there otherwise you might as well not mount it because you wont get much bass out of it. He Pop riveted metalic straps along the bottom and into the rear deck to hold the deck up and put rubber weather stripping around the box. to keep it tight between the rear deck and the box.. Its a nice custom job and will improve sound inside your car alot.

Some people have used the gain control in their SSE/i'* and re wired their after market amp'* cain control thru it. Many higher end fosgate amps have a **** on a big box at the end of a 16ft wire or so. Someone cut that off, or figured out how to use the factory one in it'* place. A very sweet mod in my book.

u will definately need an amp unless u find a speaker that only needs about 10 watts

I'm one of the few doing this with the factory slider. You will need an amp to get satisfactory performance out of anything you hook up, otherwise there is no point.

Actually the Gain slider _is_ a factory subwoofer in the first place. Last time this topic came up, I couldn't find the place where I'd seen the factory actually calling it a subwoofer, but I finally did: It'* in the service manuals, identified specifically as a subwoofer, not just a Gain control.
