Default Keep Stock Headunit

Ok, so I've figured out everything that is needed to be done to put in an aftermarket headunit and I don't like it. I'm just afraid it wont look good and it'* a whole lot more expensive than it should be to put in an aftermarket headunit. So my question is this. Can I keep my stock headunit and get all aftermarket speakers, a sub or two, and amp(*). That would really cut down on cost if I could just get a new system with the stock headunit. It would keep my car looking good. Also I'm really not very experienced with car audio so try not to use too technical of language. haha.

yes you can. there are amps with"high level inputs" that means you can just hookup the speaker wires off the stock stereo and that will eliminate the need for RCAs too which will cut down cost a little bit. here is a good site for audio Woofersetc.com the online car audio super store, the largest selection at the lowest prices!

Alright, so so far I have picked this stuff out.
Speaker Amp - $200
6x9'* - $80
Component Speakers - $160
When I say speaker amp I mean the amp thats gonna power everything but the subs. Just to clarify.

(The component speakers are the ones in the front of the car, right?)

Does anyone know if that amp will work then?

well since i can't edit that post anymore for some reason...

Is it true that using high level inputs will create distortion? If so I'm probably gonna go for an aftermarket headunit.. :(

the speakers look good. the amp on the other hand dosnt say it has high level inputs, or as i ment to say was speaker level inputs. if your open to suggestions this kenwood will work like a charm. KAC-8404 Kenwood 4-channel 600 Watt Amplifier you would just nedd to run power and ground, then tap into the speaker wire from your stereo, that will go to the speaker level input plug for the amp. it just plugs in then and no need for a remote turn on lead or RCAs. i use the class D mono kenwood amp for my sub and it sounds pretty good, though im due for upgrading soon.

hey if your upgrading does that mean that you would be selling that amp? because if you are I also see that you live in minnesota and so do i so if your gonna sell that amp and its in good condition and everything send me a pm I'd be interested. Also can that kenwood amp use rca or high level input? and I'd be using that amp for the speakers (not the subs :p) if that matters since your using it for your sub.

umm not sure about selling the amp. as of now im still trying to figure out what sub im going to go with and have thought a lil about getting a dif brand amp to try. yes it will use RCAs or speaker level inputs and its in great condition. this amp i have is made for subs only and wont run reg speakers/mids and highs though.

buy a line out converter. Audio control makes one called the LC6i. It even has a dedicated channel for the sub amp and has a level control **** as well. If it were me however, Id go for one with a little more control and line drivers. I believe the model number is the eqx. It has equalizer controls and everything. but the LC6i is much cheaper

I have a 2000 ssei bonneville. i want to keep the stock hu. i have dual 12' subs, 600w jenson amp, and i bought a iec auloc adjustable line output converter (was told to hook that up to the left and right speker wires in back. i know how to hook up the amp to the battery. I guess my question is, is there anything else i have to do, like maybe a way to shut off amp/power it on and a way to adjust the volume of amp? If so how would i do that? I you have any ideas or experiece please tell me what else i have to do.
