Well,
The real problem with aftermarket stereos is the depth. The bonne has a pretty shallow mounting depth so you will have to take this in consideration. From the front of the stock stereo to the back of it is about 6.5 inches.

From what I understand some modification has to be done behind the deck with some aftermarket headunits due to depth issues. Door chimes, OnStar and RAP (retained accessory power?) you know how your radio stays on until you open the door? I think you lose that too without the special harness. I just ordered the Metra GMOS-09 harness so that I keep my chimes and RAP. You would also need an antenna adapter for a VW not a GM, I believe the part number is VM10. I am definitely not the expert when it comes to this since I've never put in my own radio, and all the parts for mine are still being shipped to me.

thanks alot i appreciate all the help.. about how much did the harness run you? and is it true that you lose the controls of the tire pressure, oil life, compass, ect on the computer part of the dash? thats just what i had heard..

I didn't hear anything about losing the DIC information. I hope it isn't that way though. I found the harness on ebay for $99 with free shipping, it was the only one and there aren't any others on there right now.

Go to Lafayette radio.com. ( You may have to check the spelling,) they have the harnessess you will need and I think I only paid 89.00 plus shipping.
Metra has a dash kit that will fit. you will need a VW antenna adapter. Kinda odd though isn't it??
