Wierd, yes. Sucks? Yes!
I've installed many remote starters in my days and have seen your problem only in a couple of GM vehicles. |
Did you ever get your ignition issue remedied? I'm having an erratic starting issue in my 93 as of late. I'm looking into adding those resistors now.

it's still not working perfectly, but atleast now I can start the car 95% of the time with the key. if I know I'm in a hurry and can't afford to be late I use the remote start to start it. If I can afford the little extra time, I take my 19/20 chance that it's going to start. It's much better than it had been, before it was the other way around, it would only start 1 out of 20 times. lol. still don't understand why it sometimes doesn't start, but atleast it works as much as it does.. One little question for people who know these cars though, in the VATS PASS-KEY sheathing under the column, there were 3 wires in there, not just two.. I used the two wires that were the same color, and left the third one alone. anybody know what this third wire is for? (It's the same 22 gauge size, and I believe it was blue in color. the other two were shades of gray)

custom88, im gogin through this now too... $500 parts and labor to fix the ignition cylinder... and its a $17 part...
mine worked half the time i tried to start it then 3 days ago it starts like 10% of the time so i gotta get it fixed now. dont want to get stranded anywhere. it just sounds a little tricky to install.... |
I think I installed mien wrong to be honest. It still doesn't start all the time (and it should considering I did the pass-key work around.) and now my cruise control doesn't work (haven't tried using it since I've done this.) I think I might have cut the wries to the cruise control but I'm not sure. I didn't only have 2 wires under my dash that were small (22 gauge) and going into my column, I had more like 5. I probably got the wrong ones.

I think you may have the wrong target wires too, Custom. The VATS "harness" is usually bright orange in color but in some GM vehicles it is black. There will only be two very small gauge white wires in the tubelike harness. This would explain why you're still having difficulty starting and cruise doesn't work.
