House speaker

One of the speakers on our home theatre system blew I think. We are running ghetto 60's/70's speakers, they are huge though they have a nice sound to them. Anyways, the speaker that blew isnt a tweeter but it isnt a 6x9 or a sub, its somewhere in the middle. Would it be easy to just take out the bad one and replace it with a new speaker that has simular wattage and the same diameter, or should we just toss the speaker. I am a little hesitant to just toss it, because they are good speakers overall.

Finding a driver to match frequencies and cutoffs will be a little tricky, i suggest swapping the same driver on both speakers, for the best sound.

agreed....if they are old its gunan be super hard to find a speaker that puts out hte same freq and everything

For something that old, I would toss it. Once you replace that one driver, even on both sides, it will be overpowering the others, simply because of age. Might be time for some new ones.

www.partsexpress.com has the about the biggest selection of speakers that u will ever see. If there is one out there thats where u will find it

partexpress is very good i just bought a sub for my house i got it in 1 day.

but yeah finding a driver that wont over power the older one will be hard but if it was me i would 2 and replace both speakers just so one speaker isnt loader then the other.

Find a driver with a low sensitivity rating, maybe a few dB lower then the std one.

the speakers are pretty much worthless, I think we'll just get some new ones. Any suggestions for rear home theatre speakers?
