Let'* try again..Disabling lows/DRL at night, how to?
Please do not post here unless you have some idea of how to accomplish this. "There is a post somewhere about this" doesn't help me, please post some useful information.
I have a '99 SLE and wish to wire in a manual rocker switch to disable lowbeams and DRL'* at night. How can I do this?

You may be confusing DRL and Twilight Sentinel. The DRL'* will come on whenever you put your car in gear. Twilight Sentinel turns you lights on for you when it starts to get dark.
I have disabled DRL'* successfully with no problems. If you want to be able to turn off all your lights at night it would probably be easier to make a kill switch.

I'm still trying to figure out what the big deal is with disabling all these automatic features...I put the car in gear, lights come on...hmmm...cool! It gets a bit dark...foggers and centre turn indicators come on...hmmm cool!
So why do we want to disable? Prolong the life of the bulbs? Isn't it good practise to drive with your headlamps on anyway? The car makes it idiot proof for you.
IMHO of course

dude.. there'* a right up in techinfo.. just try it.. if it doesn't work out.. all you have to do is re solder it back together ( and use another piece of wire to help gap the space from splice if needed ).
Jim.. I think he doesn't want to disable ALL the twilight sentinal.. but wants to sneak up when he drops his date off too late or sneak her in.. hee hee. or drive around with the fogs on instead of DRL and using them as DRL as I"ve done a few times.. looks nice

You want this wiring and switch to be dead-reliable since those are the headlamps you're relying on to see by at night, so solder your connections and make sure you use the proper gauge of wiring (at least a 14-gauge stranded; I would recommend 12).
Your headlamp-out warning will probably go off everytime you cut them with your rocker switch, but I assume you don't have a problem with that.
