Default Help me build my system....

OK, well I think I know some of it, just not the whole thing thus far...
What I want to do is:
2 RockfordFosgate HE2 12" subs in a custom box (not for sure though, what do you think?)
custom amp rack
Lightning audio amp install kit
1.0 Frad Cap
Amp??? I have no idea... I really don't know what is good and what isn't. If at all possible I want to stick with RF but it'* not a must.
What else am I going to need? Thanks for any help...

BTW, I'm a highschool student, so most highend stuff is out of the question (JL etc)

JL isn't high end, but it'* better then rockford. I'd get some 12w0 or 12w3 instead of the HE2'*. Infinity makes some nice offerings in that price range as well.

The CAP doesn't save your battery it'* just a band aid. All it does is keep your headlights dimming, because it draws out the pull on the electrical system over a longer period of time.

Buy the amp after you have a good idea of what subs you want. I'd recommend a smaller company amp like DEI, PPI, Memphis, etc over dept store stuff, it'* built 10x better then most of the stuff, and are usually loaded with features.

Thanks, going to look into some JL, it'* just that the only JL I have ever seen on the net were the W7'* and I KNOW I cannot afford those....
About the amp, do you have any links to places that sell those? And say I went with the JL'*, how much would an amp to power those cost? Thanks again...

You may want to look into boosting your alternator and battery. I was able to swap out the old 640 CCAmp with a 900CCAmp. (Diehard battery in 94 bonneville)
As far as amps look at memphis D class amps. They provided alot of Bang and are cheep for what you get. Specifically I had alot of sucess selling the memphis 1000D.
One more piece of advise which is a mistake that ALOT of people make. Don't go Cheap on the head unit. It goes along with the theory junk in junk out. if your head unit isn'e sending high quality sound to your system your system will never have that high quality sound.

Good Luck

Thanks Slick! For power, I was thining of swapping to a optima yellow top, and then a new alternator down the line. As for memphis, I am going to take a look at some of those now on the net, and I am going to go up to a local car audio place later today. I already have my HU (in sig) does that seem like a good one, I really like it, it has superior sound over stock and mp3 and WMA capability... would you consider that to be a good one? Thanks

Heres a good link to sub boxes, there is port design and tunning and more formulas than you'll ever need.http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/boxes.asp

Dad, thanks for that link... just breifly looked it over, but it looks awesome!

Has anyone delt with www.procarstereo.com ? They are, so far, the only people that I can see that sell the 12w3 online. Going to the shop later today to talk about it with them... see if they can get me any deals.

Don't worry about amplifiers right now. It'* best to match components as good as you can, so once you narrow down your subs, we'll work on that. The w7'* are insane yes, and just one would rock your world.... Maybe do that?

Headunits pretty much all sound the same. At the same exact power output you couldn't tell a difference, until you d features like loudness, EQ, etc. ANY headunit can sound good, some just need to be setup more then others. When considering a headunit think of the color lights you want ( i wanted matching red) how the CD goes in, if you want one that can use a remote, so you can retain your factory steering wheel controls, etc.

Yup, went to the car audio shop today, I think I got an Idea of almost everything I want... I think this is the new and revised plan:
1 JL 15w3
1 JL 500/1
1 Lightning Audio 1frad cap
Custom Box / amp rack
plus install.... how does that sound?
