That 1200 Sony amp is a good amp.. and would defiantly what I would buy from best buy anyways.

BonneMeMN 07-12-2004 11:20 PM

No offense, but I wouldn't buy Sony subs if it was all I could afford.

Sony amps are ok, but if you have to buy from BB, RF would be a better choice. Again not my first, but it is at BB.

Drifter420 07-13-2004 11:07 AM

I agree with BonneMeMN.. sony amp is ok.. but stay away from the subs.. they're useless.. they're IMO as crappy as the subs you can buy @ Radio Shack ( that they use to carry on their own )

SSEi_MN 07-14-2004 04:46 PM

10 inch rockfords punches good?

Drifter420 07-14-2004 05:32 PM

yep.. but if you can afford it.. JL Audio..

SSEi_MN 07-14-2004 11:16 PM

ok how much prcier are JL over RF?
i wanted these subs ( Rockford - Punch 12" Single-Voice-Coil 8-Ohms Subwoofer P112S8) should i get 8 ohms or 4?
a box 30 inches wide... will this fit?

and what amp is better? (if it helps i have a pioneer DEH-P6600 deck)

Kenwood 1000-Watt Bridgeable Mono Amplifier with Low-Pass Crossover and Bass Boost
Model: KAC-8101D

Rockford Fosgate Punch 900W Mono MOSFET Amplifier with Selectable Bass Boost
Model: P3001

ALSO can someone explain capacitators to me? thanks for your help...

russianpolarbear 07-15-2004 12:28 AM

If I were you go ahead with the sony amp and then pick up eaither a set of 10" or 12" JL W0's. Much better then sony a cleaner sub and not a lot more.

BonneMeMN 07-15-2004 12:52 AM

JL will cost more, even w0's. I'm glad i got mine used. JL is generally not online either.

No matter what you get, get a 4ohm.

Drifter420 07-15-2004 11:30 AM

Look for the RMS of the amps.. thats what you should look for peak watts are garbage.

BonnevilleSEman 07-21-2004 11:34 PM

i'd also look at where you are putting the sony amp...it needs a lot of air space. the circuitry they use overheats pretty quick...especially if it is powering subs at any ohm load below 4 ohms. I'd take RF over JL and a fosgate amp rated at 900w is gonna give a little more power than the Kenwood i seen you mentioned at 1000 w...the circuitry they use is an H class type...it switches to 2 different pipelines when the amp heats up...keeping it cooler over all. Cooler amp more constant power. And a capacitor stores energy until you need it...like during hard bass hits. It keeps the strain off the alternator.
Now with a capacitor make sure you have it wired correctly, i've been shocked by mine...it isn't pleasent... PS. i can back up the H class design because my amp is based on it..A Diamond Audio 1000 watt mono. i have it wired at 1 ohm and it doesn't get hot at all. My cap is a Boss cap but the trick with these are that they are representative. one company makes them..and a lot throw the badges on them.. BOSS, Stinger, fosgate, JL, and Tusami are all the same. Just pick which one you want.... SORRY FOR THE LONG POST I HOPE I HELPED YOU OUT

BonneMeMN 07-22-2004 12:49 AM

Umm, JL is not fosgate at all. Totally different stuff. Much more performance oriented. MAYBE for the capacitor but that's it.

RF quality is average these days, and they aren't underated, like they used to be. Kenwood amps are decent, and JL has many features, one keeps the same power output at different ohms. etc.

BonnevilleSEman 07-22-2004 01:05 AM

yeah..i only meant the capacitors...oh i know RF and JL amps and subs aren't the same..lol.. i prefer Kove Subs myself though 8)
