Factory amp, to bypass it you would have to remove the amp and rewire. Is there something wrong with your current amp?

Ahhh, I see what your looking to do. I'm not familiar with the Bose system, so lets see if Black_Friday comes in and can give us a hand here.

bullshit..

i dont see why the speakers will blow unless you're installing a 5000 dollar system and sticking to your 5 cents stock speakers

i ran a JVC deck in my 97 bonne
i ran a Clarion in my 03 GTP
and now im running a JVC KW-NT1 in my 05 GXP with subs and still have stock speakers AND wires running off the Monsoon Amp...

and it sounds amazing comparing to stock..

new/better speakers are an option, but not a must

correct
no bypassing needed.. i can take pictures of mine and prove that i didnt bypass it to run an after market stereo..

im not an audio freak but im not a noob either..
one thing i always wondered why would the speakers pop when the amp sits between the HU and speakers? if something should pop/fry after installing the aftermarket HU it will be the amp.. because the output signal from the amp to the speakers is not changing regardless of what HU you're connect right? (im asking the experts here not being sarcastic)

anyways back on topic..
For 00+ bonnevilles with amplified systems you need the Metra GMOS-09 or the Pac C2R-GM32R to get it going with stock Bose or Monsoon system (my Monsoon system needed the harness *both PAC & METRA* slightly modified to work because stupid pac and metra think Bose and Monsoon have same wiring schematics, well they dont..) and saying this from experience on my 2005 Bonneville GXP with Monsoon.. took me over a month to get it working thanks to Darcy'* (ddalder) help on P.B.C

For older gen Bonnevilles 99 and before with amplified sound systems you will need a Pac ROEM-GM21C im not sure if Metra makes any for older bonnevilles with amplified systems. (this is not from experience, this is from online searching and common sense, i installed a HU in my 97 Bonneville but i didnt know **** about cars 6 years ago and never knew if it had an amp or not.. all i used was a cheap $8.00 harness from canadian tire or walmart and it worked like a charm)

another thing you should do is go thru the audio section here on this forum and other forums and see who did install a HU on older bonnevilles with an amplified system and see how/what they needed to do it. most users have their mod lists in their sigs.. that could help too..

I agree. If you want to install a new deck and plan on leaving the exisisting Bose amp/speakers, get an adapter like the PAC listed above. But if you decide you want to put some new speakers in too, you should run new wires from the speakers to either your deck or an new amp.

SAMZGXP: Speakers would fry due to being fed a heavily distorted signal at the amp'* max output. The new head unit is putting out a high level output which is being fed into that amp- which is expecting a low level signal input. It might work ok at lower volumes, but as you turn it up the signal quickly distorts as the amp'* output reaches its peak voltage capability. You get square-wave like output signals that sound horrible and are hard on the speakers, causing coils to burn up.
One way to look at it is even with a weak factory radio, you can blow the speakers with the few watts it supplies to the speaker if it is cranked up causing it to receive a heavily distorted signal. Many folks replace just the deck and are happy with the results because the speakers are receiving a cleaner signal at higher volumes, so it sounds better and isn't quite as hard on the old speakers. My 2 cents.
