Default Questions about remote CD

Please forgive my ignorance about this subject....

I have a 95 SSEi. I was just doing some work under the driver'* side panel (by the fuse box and I found a remote CD controller. It is a GM/Delco product that is hard wired to a GM/Delco FM modulator under the dash.

I have a cassette player in the dash, but does this mean my car came with a remote CD player in the trunk? Or did the previous owner have it wired in?

I bought the car used about a year ago and there is not a CD player there now. Could ANY brand remote CD player be hooked up to this, or would a factory GM remote CD player (if there is such a thing) have to be hooked up to it?

I will try to post a picture of the controller later.

Interesting... I've never heard of that setup using Delco parts.
