Component Front Speakers in an '03
Hey folks,
Curious if others have installed a component set of front speakers in their '00+ Bonneville. The factory speakers are not sounding so great anymore. I plan to upgrade just the speakers.
The component sets seem to get good reviews. I'm curious if you can use the stock wiring that'* in the door. Is there a factory crossover somewhere for the existing tweeter? What'* the best way to wire in a new set, with the existing wires or use the new cross-over? I have no idea how its wired from the factory.
Maybe I'll just swap the 6 3/4 speakers in the door. Any help or ideas appreciated...

there is no crossover in the doors, both the tweeter and the 6.5 get the full signal from the HU...the difference is that there is a bass blocker on the factory tweeter from playing the low notes and damaging the tweeter....
you could install a component set, and use the factory locations of the tweeter and the 6.5 and have no problems

I just put in a 6.5" component set in my 04. They went right into the factory location. However, I don't think the original wiring will work. The day before I swapped out my speakers, I had installed my Kenwood CD receiver that was hooked up to a sub amp and a 100w x2 amp for the front speakers. I ran the amp'* speaker wires to the wiring harness of the deck to power the factory speakers until I put the components in the next day. But, they wouldn't work. Fade to the front; nothing. So I had to run new wire to the doors.
Personally, I'd recommend running new wire anyway. The toughest part is snaking it through the rubber boot from the door to the car. Having the new wire makes hookup simple and really simplifies the process of replacing the factory equipment when it comes time to sell. That way, all the factory wires and harnesses are there.

Thanks for the input. I'm not changing my HU so I think the original wiring will work. In fact, I'd prefer not to touch the HU or the wiring at all.
I'll run the comnponent set off of full leads to the door speakers. That sounds like reasonable plan. Now, just have to pick which component set to go with!
Thanks for the responses...
