Fosgate opinions
Ok so i have a few days to decide on a headunit that i want to get. I just got a Fosgate PA2 preamp processor for a great deal. I am looking at a few fosgate headunits
http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/ez2/f.../RFX9420_F.jpg here are the specs *this one requires an external amp* http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...Source%20Units http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/ez2/f...RFX9220G_F.jpg here are the specs http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...Source%20Units any suggestions?? |
i dont have a rockford HU but i have all rockford speakers which i found to be the best sound for the price, i would go with the one that needs an amp, the higher volt preouts would be betetr if your gonna be amping it anyway, and as far as im concerned, unamped HU's just arent good enough
|
Go with the unamped if you plan on a system in the future the 8volt outs are nice and its got processor features.. Wish I knew which ones but sounds like x-overs, digital eq etc etc..
I wish I would have went unamped but hind sight is 50/50 Still looking for a Fosgate Symmetry for all the newbs to car stereo out there, it was the ultimate processor man that thing was nice.. |
yes a BIG ass system is in order
I figured unamped would be the way to go for this purpose |
If you don't need the amp section get the preamp only one.
I have a RF Head Unit, it's far from perfect, mine doesn't have any billion way parametric EQ like pioneers, but it just sounds good with it's Punch Loudness. I used to have a Pioneer in the last car, and after installing this for a buddy in his firebird i liked the acoustics. The MP3 navigation is pretty good IMO. 5v rms preouts aren't bad at all though. You can't control the Processor from the Amplified HU though the page says. But the Amplified one is red lit. |
yea and the 9220G has a optional CD changer for later.......
jason what model do you have?? I have a pioneer now i the SQ is ok....is the RF better?? I think that the 9220G will be the choice (there are like 5 on e bay right now) or the RAVDVD1 is unamplified and plays dvds so i have no clue what i will do  |
I have the CDX-9000 same as this really http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/produ...Source%20Units
SQ can't comment too much, but my stockers sound good with my JL's. Bass and Treble adjust good, the balance seems just right for SQ. |
Not too familar with RF's new stuff. I'm a fan of there older stuff, it seem like once a company tries to go big and sell in every car audio meglo-mart (i.e. Best Buy and others) they drop in quality to make a bigger profit. With that being said, if you are going to buy from one of these companies try to stay on the higher end of your products.
But I looked at the stats on the first HU and the PreAmp Output is great - 8 volts @ 50 Ohms of AP. I don't know how much this unit will run but if it is high I'd look into ECLIPSE for a HU. As for the 2nd HU I'd stay away from internal HU power if you know your going to upgrade down the line. Your overall THD is going to be like 10-100 times lower. |
well I am happy to say that I just won a fosgate RAVDVD 1 headunit and a type RF amp for CHEAP
the headunit had no internal amp so i will run the Type RF amp to the front speakers and then get another Type RF for the backs. I have a fosgate PA2 preamp with a front, rear and sub outputs |
I was impressed by RF along time ago.
The first time I ever heard any RF was just before Hurricane Hugo hit Charleston. My EX and I went to a stereo shop when I was putting my first together and I sat in a Civic that had a Power 1000 and a Power 600 in the trunk. The 1000 had a pair of 15" RF subs on it and I can't remember what was on the 600. Anyways, the salesman was trying to get me to go with the RF but they were TOOOO expensive. He turned it up to about halfway and we sat for about a min and when we got out I felt like my teeth were loose. The sound was incredible!!!!!!!! I saw on old school RF on ebay not long ago............wish I had had the money at the time to get it!!!!!! |
