Default Remove radio from 98 SSE

Hi everyone:

How do I remove my radio/cd player (Bose) on my 98 SSE.

There appears to be 3 screws/bolts etc above the steering wheel- do they come out first before trying to remove the other part/parts around the radio?

I don't want to crack anything by forcing something that should not be pryed loose.

(any help here is appreciated.- My CD player is shot- keeps showing Code E20 and rejecting the cd - no matter what I do- dry disc cleaner/ alcohol/ cotton swab etc-
I spoke to my GM dealer- parts guy- he said don't bother getting it fixed by GM- they charge over $200.00 just to look at it- better off buying a used one or an after-market brand - He was not very high on Delco Electronics- he claims its one of the worst out there. This is coming from a GM employee!)

So, I'm going to remove this one and re-place it with a used OEM.

Thanks.

The radio trim has 3 or 4 clips that hold it in place. use a small flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry these loose. The trim piece extends over the top of the steering wheel to the other side of the dash, carefully remove it and remove the 2 or 3 screws that hold the radio in.

Like he said, the dash trim just pops off. CAREFULLY pop it off and the only screws are the ones actually holding the head unit in.

I personally like to reach in from behind the center console area and push it out. Makes me feel better that I won't break the clips there. Once that'* loose, I run my hand under the dash trim until I can feel the next tight sopt, which should be the next clip.

Be extremely careful of the clip to the left (drivers side) of the steering column. I've had to JB Weld that clip back together a couple of times on mine.

Here'* some semi decent pics of what you're doing

I simply grab it by the cluster...say right or left side.. pull back gently while wiggling..Pop... find the next clip..pop...pop pop..

When you get it..you'll be looking at it wondering how they could do it so simply and make so many other things hard to do.

* Thanks for the help removing the Cd-player. It went just like you all described- piece of cake- out in a matter of a few minutes being very careful not to force/snap any clips-
Got a great OEM replacement on Ebay from a 2000 Grand-Prix- Total $81.00 bucks- ($71.00 plus $10.00 *&H) Also -back in in a few minutes Plays great!!!

Thanks.
