OK if youve ever used or installed one of these you know it can be a little intimidating right out of the box. after all just a headphone sized (coax?) cable into a small rectangle box with only two tiny buttons, with its slender multicolored ribbon cable neatly attached opposite the coax. At least thats how the Peripheral Ectronics I am trying to install looks. The slightly different PESWIX model on their site looks very similar, however slightly more jumbled with a nest of different color wires:



Apparantly we with Bonnevilles are lucky enough to only have to hook up a total of three wires, plug it in the compatible Alpine deck, and your done. I found the Pontiac listing in the wiring instructions, which listed the factory steering wheel control wire (one of the three needed hookups) for 2000 and newer as being green colored. But it made no note of the 92-99 style Bonnevilles! So thats where I am, totally stumped, when I notice that the coax cable looks a little weird. Yep, the wire looked like it had been chewed on by someone or some thing. So, its packed up and on its way back to the vendor in Cali. In the meantime I need to find out what color the wire I need to hook to is, and finding a connector or harness location where I can tap into it. Can anyone help? Maybe one of you lucky souls with a FSM can confirm the color for their respective model year so we can all have this information?

I installed the SoundGate unit for Pioneer stereos in my 2000 Bonnie. Granted it'* meant for Pioneer stereos, but it is probably basically the same hook up. However, I only had to hook up one wire, and that'* it. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the "Play" button on my steering wheel doesn't do anything. All the rest work like they're supposed to. I want to get the PAC SWI-PS. That one actually lets you program each button to do whatever you want. I will look for you sometime this week and let you know what wire I had to cut for the signal. From my understanding, there'* only one wire that carries the signal from the buttons on the steering wheel. And, the best way to find it is at the dash integration module. Like I said, though, I'll look at it this week and let you know which one it is.

I used the Pac SWi-X and it'* a three wire hook up. I connected to all three wires right at the radio connector. Bought two connectors to fit our car. This way I had extra wires to put into one connector.

They leave out the wire from the steering control because many don't have it and also power to the gain slider/bose amp.

You are looking for a light/green or green wire. I want to think the location is #13 on 95'* and #14 on 96+ but don't quote me as I don't have a manual in front of me.

I believe you ran new speakers but the orignal radio harness should still be right there for you to use the wire from. Personally I would skip the box hunt and grab the wire from behind the radio (it'* an easy find)

my question is that the stock buttons have 2 uses for certin functions of the radio and cd player. will that do 2 function buttons?

L27.. You bet.

I programmed mine this way.

Volume up and down is just that
Seek up and down is seek up and down (on our radio it allows different seek mode and rocks!) This same button moves up and down through tracks on the cd
Preset I made the source button (am/fm, CD, Standby)
AM/FM I put in as the FM swap button for FM1, FM2 or FM3
Mute is the ATT button that works as a mute
Play is the face angle button..aka..playing around!
