I just bought an XM radio (Samsung Nexus 25) and the car kit for it. In order to get the best sound quality I'll need to use a WIRED FM modulator which I have yet to purchase. I have an installation appointment for Thursday night but I have a feeling I can run this all myself and save 70 bucks but I can't seem to figure out how the stock radio comes out on the car or if the Theftlock will need a new code when I'm finished. Basically all I'd do with the modulator is plug the stock antena and wiring from my XM radio in it and run an antena out of the modulator to the stock radio. Also, since I've read that the OEM radios are 2'' shorter than aftermarket ones, should I expect trouble fitting the moduator in there with the radio?

Do it yourself... very easy job... and yeah the module should have no problem fitting back there. As for the codes I am not certain.

How do I get the radio out though? I can't see any screws to take the dash off if thats what needs to be done.

I did mine in my 98 SE that had theftlock. I didnt have any problems . as far as screws, I
dont think they had any. It has tabs on the back that fit into holes. Make sure the first thing you do is thak you the fuse for your aibag.Then remove the neg cable from battery.
What you do is look at the whole plactic peice that surrounds the radio. Im sure youLL see that it bigger than that. Mine covers the instrument pannel, radio and a/c, it one peice. Take a screwdriver and insert in in the gap, and pop thearea out, follow it around andit should come off pretty easily.
Once thats off, you should see about 3-4 screws holding a plate that keeps the radio in place. take those out. and remove plate.

Next is to pull radoi out and unplug the conectors out and antenna. The radoi just comes out. now your ready for the new one, follow the instructions on kit and radio.

Your 2000 is going to be completely different from the previous years. A bit more advanced install to say the least. The opening in the dash is exactly as big as the radio itself, so if you plan on putting the modulator back there its going to have to be to the passenger side and down to the floor. Your biggest dilema however will be connecting the modulator. You really have three options. Pull the VW style antenna connection from its fixed mount behind the radio, and place the new antenna adapater after the modulator in its place. So basically its daisy chained... OEM antenna to antenna adapter, to FM modulator, to reverse antenna adapter, to back of factory radio. You can also remove the top of the dash to unvail another antenna junction that isn't quite as cramped, or drop the headliner in the rear towards the glass, and make the connection at the antenna amplifier. Either way, be prepared to put a little bit of time into it.

I told myself before I bought this car that I wasn't going to do any jobs myself with this one so I think I'll leave this one to the pros, that way if they mess it up its their *** not mine fixing this. I just thought it'd be a quick and easy 15 minute job. It looks like its going to be too cold and wet to do outside anyways if it'* going to take a while. I've had other stereo jobs messed up which put me with a free rental car paid for by the install shop while they fixed the mess.
