double Din Headunit
Has anyone installed a double DIN headunit into a 2000+ bonneville? IT seems as though there would be enough space to mount one, but, has anyone actually done it? I am thinking of going the double din route so the cd player looks more integrated into the dash, but I haven't seen anyone install one in the 2000+. If the entire opening is filled, it looks more factory. I'm a big fan of a stealthy install.
Thanks!
Thanks!
ISO mount brackets are availible for GM double din openings, so mounting it won't be too much an issue. The way the opening around the dash bezel overhangs a little bit makes me a tad nervous. You might have to file down the lip and refinish the bezel.
this is the unit I would like to maybe get. Only downside is that it only has front + sub pre-outs. I need front+rear+sub. :( All my speakers are amplified.
EDIT: Might help if I included the link! lmao

The Bonneville 2000 and above is double din. All my sources say it as well. the stock cd player has the dimensions:
6 1/4" Depth
4 1/4" Tall
7 3/4" Wide.
. a Din radio is 2 inches tall, a 1.5 Din is 3" (for the Bonneville this would be the years 1987-1999. The 2000+ radio is 4.25" tall, which is double din.

BTW, I don't think this cd player is ugly, atleast not anymore so than having a plastic bracket holding in a cd player that'* way too small for the dash plate
I think a cd player that fills the entire space would look better IMO. I already have a cd player that is in the top of the dash but because it'* been acting up I figure what the hell, why not maybe get a cd player that looks like it belongs in the dash because it fills the opening the way it should be. Call me crazy, but it has a lot of features for less than $300. DSP, 9 band EQ, plays AAC files (major plus for me, major iTunes fan here) MP3, Sirius or XM radio, etc.
