Hey gang, I was curious, off the top of anyone'* head do we have an idea of how big the spare tire well is in the trunk?? The reason I'm asking is I am thinking of sinking my subs into the well and was wondering if it is big enough to hold two 12'*.

I know it will take a little work to design the box but I have the tools and enough knowledge to do it. I will do a false floor around the enclosure itself and finish it off proper. I will relocate the spare so that is not a problem as I know how I will do it. The amps will be mounted on either side of the trunk (one on each side).

Oh it is my 02 Bonny that I will be installing it in.

never seen the trunk of an 02 but i now subs and i now my 95 se and my 88sse and theres no way 2 12'' subs will fit in the spare tire compartment.

this would be a difficult task, but there is no way you would be able to fit two 12" subs, you may be able to fab a box for one, but you should check the specs on the subs you are using so that way you can make sure you make the right volume or it may not sound that great. If you are going to build a small box, you will want to add polyfill to help the sub think it is in a bigger box when it is flexing. It will also be really hard to put the carpet flooring over it since it will most likely hit the cover when flexing, you could also make a box that fires down, but you may have to remove the mounting bracket for the tire....there are so many problems with this that I believe that this may not be a good route to take. In infiniti suvs they acutally have a small subwoofer built into the spare tire space that screws on top of the spare, its a small sub built into a tube, that is routed around in a circle.

if you make the box 40x30 it will be exactly 4 cubic feet. let me know if you need any help. I'm an installer

not trying to say you aint an installer but most know this.,.

plus you still need a few inches of flexing room and to take out the spare tire mount, I could only imagine how much it would rattle w/ anything covering it. I really don't think you could fit 4 cubic foot box in that hole...i think you are trying to calculate surface area 2 dimensions, volume is in 3, i had a 2 cubic foot box for two 12'* and it took up at least 1/4 of the trunk.

I have seen it done a few times and I think it is possible. Didn't say it was gonna be easy, I just think it can be done.

what the hell are you talking about? he asked one question and I answered that one question... I also followed that answer with tellin him that if he needs more help to let me know.... what else should I say beyond that? when he asks me how to build the frame, I will help him more...

he was simply stating that if you are building a box it should have a volume, not just a flat piece of wood. The dimensions that you gave was just the length x width (specifying surface area), while usually boxes are stated as length x width x height (specifying volume). 88bonnsse was not being malicious stating what he said, you stated we are not criticizing you, we would like you to specify what your exact ideas are so we can understand what you are trying to design.
