Default radio advice / stock radio for sale 92 SSEi

Hi ,

Lookin' for a little advice. The radio in my 92 SSEi has a couple of problems. The volume **** on the radio does not function. Fortunately, the volume controls on the steering wheel are OK, but they are not always the most convenient to use in town around corners. The left front door speakers do not play. I checked the speakers and connections at the door today. They look fine. I will check the wires to the radio tomorrow, but I'm guessing the problem is at the radio.

Are these radios user fixable? Does it cost an arm and a leg to get it done? Does anyone know of a reputable shop that works on them?

Or.....

Does anyone out there have a stock radio that works OK that will fit in my car that they want to sell?

I'm guessing I would need the same sort I have now. AM/FM Cassette, Equalizer, Gain control, steering wheel controls?

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Yes, the 92-93 radios are somewhat more rare than the newer ones. I think www.unitedradio.com works on the delco radios. Your best bet would be to find a used one on ebay then combine the working parts from the two radios, if you're handy.

1993 SLE: OK, here is a picture of my radio. Mine has only 5 eq bands. LCD is green, backlights are red. Did yours have steering wheel controls? My steering wheel controls include AM/FM, SEEK, RCL, PRE-SET, VOL, and PWR. Did yours have the gain control (Fuddy says it is a bass amp) below the head unit, or will yours work with one?

And if all of that stuff matches up, how much?

(For comparison, my local wrecker says if he can find one that will fit, he will sell me one for $50.)

1993 SLE,

Still there? My junkyard guy who was supposed to call if he found a unit that would fit, has not called. So.......maybe he can afford to sell radios for $10 when he doesn't have any!

Does it sound like yours is an easy swap into my '92?

Bill, I got me one of those rare 93 CD players last year from some parts place in Virginia. After awhile I started getting those error codes and ejecting the CD. The first of the year I drove up to Syracuse, NY where United Radio is located to have them service my unit. btw, the United Radio facility in Syracuse is huge. I highly recommend them. They charge a flat fee for service/repair. I think the flat fee is 150.00 but don't quote me on it. You can call them for more details. Anyway I dropped mine off at the front desk and the girl said we have another one on the shelf and all she did was scan the UPN code on my unit and they installed the other one (at no charge). I just paid a core exchange fee for the other unit which was a lot less than the flat fee. The radio they installed looked brand new with all new parts and it plays my CD'* perfectly. I was very well pleased with them.
