Custom sub setup is about to begin

Looks like I am going to be getting some sub equipment here real quick. I am going tonight to pay for a PPI x2200 amplifer and 2 12" PPI subs. Retail on all this is well over $1500 but I am paying somewhat less than $1000. :D

So here is the question. I am going to do a custom install of the 2 12" subs and amps (2 amps, 1 2 chnl for subs and 1 4 chnl for everything else). How should I best orientate everything inside the trunk? I would like to keep the arm rest passage open if possible, but it's not a neccessity.

Do I do a "wall" across underneath the rear dash from side to side? Do I mount the subs at an angle behind each side of the rear seat? Do I mount the subs in the rear most side wells in the trunk (like where the spare jack is)? Or do you have a better idea?

Any pictures of current installations would be sweet if you got some (or know where some are).

Also, for those of you who have made custom enclosures before, what type/thickness of wood did you use to make it, where did you get the carpeting, and how did you secure it all inside the trunk?

How about positioning everything so you can showcase some of that impressive equipment through the passthrough? I eventually want to do that with mine, be able to opent he passthrough and see either an amp showcased in neon string, or something, or maybe the backside of a neon-lit sub box with a lexan/plexiglass back...That would be cool....

Gordy...how bout...since you want to keep the arm rest passage....putting one sub box so the front edge lines up wiht the right edge of the passage and one box on the left to do the same on the left side...they would be like this / \ in there...here look at this gordy....

something like that...so;rry bad picture...lol...anyways youd need to make custom boxes...but i think if youpulled that off that would look sweet...!!!

Hey Crazy, that is kinda what I was thinking. I also like mremer's idea with getting neon and plexi int there. I know they have this blue wire at Target that you can get that lights up kinda like neon. That would make it easy for laying in some color.

Not sure where the plexi would go though. Maybe windows into the sub box's to see the backs ot the subs? cover over the amps (vented of course)? other?

Thats what I was thinking. Build the box with the subs facing towards the rear of the trunk, install a blue neon tube IN the box itslef and have the back panel made out of plexi so you can see it through the passthrough. Maybe get creative and make the whole thing out of fiberglass and plexi the back.

Have you seen TaylorD's setup? This has a semi-step-by-step, I guess. Not sure if he mentioned material thicknesses and the like. Here ya go:

If you want Ill try a find you a copy of some plans that should work. The only thing is youll lose your rear 6x9's. They were also made for a Grand Prix. But it looks nice when complete.

Sweet, I'd like to see those, too.

Hmm...We are hitting on a subject where my profound ignorance will surely shine through...
