Default Steering Wheel Controls (Opposite Day)!

I was wondering how I might do exactly the converse of what so many have asked: How do I kill my steering-wheel controls (without installing a new hu)? The bloody thing is possessed, and seems like it tries to crank the volume everytime I start to pay attention to the road. To say that it is annoying is like saying that Ronnie James Dio'* analogies didn't start to bug real quick.

pull the switchs out of the steering wheel with thin object, like a knife, and disconnect the switches.

however, I dont think your problem is coming from the steering wheel controls, but go ahead and try it to be sure. Its fast and easy

Thanks for your quick response!
Are you talking about doing something like the 92-95 Steering wheel controls fix in Techinfo?
Perhaps I'll try that another day, for now, I just want the wheel to command my vessle by, and it'* guts to perhaps, one day, save my life.

There is a little more to it, however. It usually happens when (or the behavior is initiated by) turning the wheel at low-speeds ie. parking lot, 3-point turn, et al. The wheel does not have to go to lock. Once it starts, it'll happen a handfull of times, each event, more frantic than the previous, I try to crank the volume **** counter-clockwise again-and-again before it maxes-out/distorts/damages my speakers.

The reality of the situation is that all of the buttons have become screwy when I've got the tape adaptor in - the only one that seems to still do as it was intended, is the mute (thankfully), and usually, the volume button. The rest of them just want to flip the tape, and when it tries (sometimes on its own) it never fully engages, so it has to flip BACK over before it will "resume" playing.

I do have a new hu on the way and PAX unit, but I find myself wondering why with buttons that are such a mess. I absolutely do not want the phantom volume, tune, seek, et cetera carrying over - rather, it should become a quaint bit of 'personality' from the automobile before having turned it into a man.

Wow that would be PITA.
Hope that fix works for you, I couldn't imagine dealing with that.
Is it only when the tape adapter is in?
Weird, I can't think of any reason that should be happening.

You're right, it can be!
I can only give you a lop-sided yes to your question about the tape adapter because commercial radio is GARBAGE!

Funny. I pretty much only listen to the radio.

But, yeah, I know what you mean. If it is only what you listen to, you can't really know if that is related.
Good luck!

It'* official - it does not require the tape adapter to behave erradically - it will do it while just listening to the radio.
Why, yesterday, it even turned itself down - a first!

Quite the amazing automobile, Bonneville.

Interesting.
I hope you are able to figure it out soon, I can only imagine how annoying that must be.

There are a couple possibilities that I can think of:

1. Haro is right and it'* some stuck buttons. In which case you could unplug for now and replace them easy and cheaply later.

2. The wire going out of the steering wheel has a problem and is making contact to ground where it'* sending various resistances/ohm readings to the radio. (The same way it controls the radio.) and unplugging the wheel controls will not work. You'd need to pull the radio (easy and quick) then remove the wire for that signal from the connector.

3. The wrong year radio is in the car and something else is sending that signal to the wrong pin on the radio connector.
