I have been contemplating adding a sub to my system because I am a basshead. I have had a few systems that included Audiobahn, Lanzar, and Pioneer Premier. My most recent setup was with the Pioneer Premier, and was by far the best and the loudest. My question is has anybody had a CW, or heard the SQ and SPL? I've been told that they are an "old school" company that is out of date, but I want to give them a try. Any input is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

If you can find the Stroker series by Cerwin Vega, you should go for those. If I am not mistaken that sub was used in movie theaters, for earthquake effects. All that aside back in the day CV's Stroker was a pretty killer speaker.

That is the particular sub I was looking at, the 122 (12 inch 2 ohm) in particular. Earthquake effects??? I definately have to try one out now. Helps alot, thank you.

Be sure to buy one of there older subs, you will only find it used.

Cerwin Vega's new stuff (like the past 3 or so years and newer) is pretty questionable. The Stroker should be ok, but your gonna need some power to move it around.

I'm thinking about using a 4000 watt Soundstorm to push it. I had a Pyle X-gear but it would constantly go into protect so I might sell it.

Back in the day, 35 years ago, Cerwin Vega were the holy grail of loud Bass speakers.
I don't know what they are like now but as long as you''re willing to pay the price, they should perform well.

Most US and British speaker manufacturers have had to cheapen there speakers due to competition from the far east.

Yes, you will need a lot of clean power to drive them. 4000 should be enough to do permanent hearing damage. :lol:

Thanks for the positive feedback, though I probably will never turn the amp up high enough to even make my ears pops, I like to have the ability to do so if I need to. I will be getting and installing this setup just after Christmas so pictures are only a few weeks away.

As others have said you need alot of power

The main reason for the lots of power statement is it's distortion that blows speakers not overpowering them. You'll also want to make sure you have plenty of space to devote to the subs also. Around 3 cubic feet per sub.

Are you gonna go sealed or ported??
