Raptor,

You may understand the reason for the suggested law when you get older. We lived on a highway for over a dozen years, we were far back and had big evergreens to block noise. The population changed and grew in the surrounding area, mainly undocumented residents.

With this came sound systems that produced huge noise that went through the 2x6 outside walls of the house and double pane Anderson windows.All day, all night. No longer could sleep with the windows open.I wondered if the people with the tunes had any thought that their blasted music impacted others....

Anyways, If people didn't encroach with their sound systems- I doubt there would be a reason to suggest this law. Maybe I am just getting old.......

i think being stricter with sound ordinance laws would be a better idea, larger fines and whatnot. Not actually being illegal to have subs in your car, thats going a little to far, that will also put car audio shops and their employees out of business.

I'm way older and can't understand the lameness of this particular bill. I support noise ordinance, Don't get me wrong. When your music or Sub "noise" is loud enough to breach the peace of others, there is NO excuse for it. But the Bill being discussed is way out there and is for banning equipment that would a hard time doing so from the interior of a car.

Here's a excerpt of the Bill:
§291- Aftermarket motor vehicle audio equipment; excessive sound amplification prohibited. (a)No person shall install, possess, or operate in any motor vehicle an in-dash or mounted radio, cassette tape, compact disc, digital video disc, or digital music device other than the original equipment in which there are:
(1)
Five or more speakers, including subwoofers or any other speakers not installed in the passenger compartment;
(2) Any speaker exceeding one hundred watts power output;
(3) Any speaker exceeding six and one-half inches in width or height; or
(4) Any speaker installed external to the passenger compartment or in an open hatch back.

Many OEM systems exceed 100 watts. Many OEM systems exceed 6 inches. Many OEM systems exceed 5 speakers. Also the aftermarket industry has alot of money to defend against this type of Bill and one can be assured it would be most likely get struck down anyway based on the above and that there are legal barriers and precedents that the Bill couldn't "hold water" in a Fed Court hearing. It's is a conscious act of turning up equipment to break noise laws and mostly a Fed Court would hold the Laws are enough and need to be enforced. In such a proceeding the State would have to bring forth credible evidence from Law Enforcement that these laws can't be upheld in a manner that presents the Public with a real physical danger. (As in the case with some Municipalities having "No Pit Bulls Ordinances" upheld by the Courts):

So where does this Bill leave us? It's just really a media hype BS. One State Senator,
M. OSHIRO brought the Bill forward. It had no other support, and it's present status is:
From State Gov Page:
1/25/2011HPending introduction.
1/26/2011HIntroduced and Pass First Reading. 1/26/2011HReferred to TRN, FIN, referral sheet 2 2/4/2011HBill scheduled to be heard by TRN on Wednesday
2/9/2011 9:00AM in House conference room 309.
2/9/2011 The committee(s) recommends that the measure be deferred.

It passed introduction into the State Legislature like 99% of Bills out of respect to the people introducing them. It was passed on to a Committee who immediately shelved it (deferred) without further discussion slated. End of story. It's amazing to me how many supposed "internet reporters" can make a blog entry and turn it into sensationalism that brings up so much passion and wasted BS over nothing. Make it sound good, get a little readership and the whole things hits a newswire. After the fact the Bill got shot down before it cleared an initial read in Committee.

My names GXP Venom and that's the way it is.
