Default Help with the removal of the driver'* side dash 4x6 speaker

I went to remove the darned thing and it appears to be unremovable!!! :( Apparently it was installed with no intentions of removal!! Is there any way to remove it without tearing up my dashboard? Also, if anyone has suggestions on where to run my amplifier'* power wire through the firewall, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Have you removed the dash pad? Although my SSE dosen't have dash speakers, I'v removed the dash pad to work on the cluster. It seems to me that this is the way to remove both dash speakers. There'* only 6 screws holding it on.

If you can remove the speaker cover it may be possible to do it. I had a pair of 4x6 Kenwoods installed when I had the HU installed in my 89SE, they didnt remove the dash pad. However, it got difficult on the driver side. Some weird cut in the steel made it uber hard to remove the speaker. After a bit of pleading and negotiating it came out.

Its possible, but removing the dash cover is still easy to do!.

Hows yer defroster grille? Popping out? :?

Absolutely. Either it shrunk or the dash pad grew. I have a good plan to correct though.

Lol!! It is popping out!!
I'll play around with the dash pad when I get some more speakers; it'* like there'* 2 metal pieces that'* keeping it from being removed but I'll follow the excellent advice I've gotten here! I went to an audio shop to get an estimate on an install if I bought some 6x9s and some 4x6s and they gave me the price of $365 that'* even with me supplying the install kit!! I'll do it myself!! I can spend that money on some slotted rotors and an intake!!

You have to remove the lil vents that are on the dash pad. Therell be some screws in there. Not sure what screws you removed/found already. I removed the dash pad in mine the first time. Afterwards I set the speaker in put the dash pad in and then screwed down the screws that I could get to so I didnt have to do it again.

Default Update!!

Hey all!! I finally got all the wiring done with the exception of the hole through the firewall for the amp power wire!! Took me all day but it was cheaper than the $365 I was quoted at a local shop!! I'll get pics of it all when the install is completed!! Thanks for all of the help!!!

Good job! We knew you could do it. Now you can take some of the dough you saved and get some new CDs
