Default Antenna options

(Mods/Admins move if necessary, I didn't know whether or not to post it here or the lounge)
OK, the antenna on the Impy sucks. Especially after I installed my deck. So, my question is, what kind of options do I have? Repeaters? External antennas? Idk, I'm running out of ideas. A google search came up with nothing. Any help?

Got nothing? Damn. I think what I'm gonna do is take apart the factory radio and try to see what amplifies the antenna. If I can figure it out, I'll try to duplicate it and then hook it up between the stereo and the GM antenna adapter. Has any of the 00+ Bonnie guys had an issue with their antenna?

Did you buy wire harness adapter (like Best Kits, Metra or Scosche) and use it when you installed the aftermarket HU or did you Hardwire (spice into the factory harness or cut off the plug) ?
Either way, my guess is that you did not hook up the remote wire from the new HU to the remote turn on in the factory harness.

I assume you used the antenna adapter to convert the GM mini antenna to standard size.

Dutch, I have the antenna adapter. After further investigation, the guys over at NAIOA found no fix for it, as it seems that it'* a common issue, so I guess I'm out of luck. Sirius, here I come!

Petey...

Maybe you can tell us what the Gimpala came with for an antenna. I'm assuming a window mount from your 00 mention.

From what I see after looking at 3 different wiring diagrams for the stereo options available in your car, it is no different than any of the other similar 2000+ GM products.

Your car has both the front and rear glass antennas with the external antenna module, correct ?

I would double check and make sure that the Remote wire is connected to the White wire in the factory harness pin B3.

There is no situation I have ever incountered in all my years of professionally installing were the radio reception is worse after installing an aftermarket HU.................with the exceptions of using the wrong antenna adapter or not connecting a remote wire.

Good Luck,
Dutch

yeah, it came with the glass antenna. I'm gonna check the remote wire tomorrow. I connected the wires with a new system of fasteners that I wasn't so sure about. I'm gonna check it out tomorrow.

I think that'* your answer. I hate the radio reception (or lack there of) in my 01. Funny thing is my 78 Camaro has a factory windshield antenna (GM doesn't learn) and an old Kenwood, shafted, cassette deck and the radio reception isn't great but it'* 5X better than the radio in my 01 Bonne.

I tried to boost the performance of the antenna in my Camaro years ago and was told the only way to get better reception was a fixed antenna. Antenna amplifiers just amplify the signal the antenna gets. If the antenna pulls in static all you're amplifying is static.
