In general, are the aftermarket HU'* that are out there able to take in my Delco cd changer pretty easy or will it be just a small rewiring job? Or will I have to ditch the Delco altogether?

if you buy a wiring harness adapter and an antenna adapter all you have to do is connect the wires from the harness to the harness for the back of your deck. both should have instructions as to which wire is which.

The harness and antenna adapter have nothing to do with the functioning of the Delco CD changer. Not to say they don't exist, but I'm not aware of any adapters to retain the use of an OEM changer to an aftermarket head unit unless the OEM changer was originally say a Sanyo or Alpine...something to that effect, and could be used with a matching brand name after market stereo provided it had a CD changer controller on it.

If you have an mp3 player or an Ipod, you're better off integrating products like that versus an old CD changer.

However, I offer these two insights:
(1) Aftermarket CD changers are pretty inexpensive (under $200).
(2) If you get a head unit that will play MP3 CDs, you can fit more music on a single MP3 CD than you can fit in a CD changer on standard red-book audio CDs. Therefore: Get a HU that plays MP3 CDs, rip your audio CDs to MP3 and put all the MP3s on a single MP3 CD. CD changers are now officially obsolete.

Add to that an iPod interface, and CD changers are *really* obsolete. I now have all three: HU that plays MP3CDs, iPod interface, and audio CD changer. Guess which one I never use?

Car audio dorks like me who for whatever reason or another need a pure, loss-less audio format still employe the use of CD changers. I rip all my MP3s at 320kbps, and even still occasionally can notice information missing from the recordings. For sound quality, a raw disc format is still tops...for now. Will the average person notice? No probably not. The benefits still far outweigh the negatives for the vast majority of people.

The problem being the de-facto target device is an iPod
with earbuds. NOT that 5.1 dolby digital home theatre
system you spent a fortune on to watch movies with
horrible audio engineering!

Loose the factory head it internally tweaks your output WORTHLESS!

pick up a reasonable head IT WILL DO .MP3 they all do anymore and
you pick your own formatting!

I donno if the delco changer can be adapted for low level AUX inputs
with control.... I think many are re-branded kenwood or panasonic changers
at first thought I'd say NO you'll loose the trunk changer with a new head
it'* the controller thats the catch.... Tho' your factory HU will fetch a
nice price on 'bay since a HU with changer controls are 600 and up!

sell it and get a serious system!
