BOSE Debate..How do I add aftermarket speakers or HU?

First of all does anyone know how many ohms the speakers are that come with the 96-99 bose setup for the 6x9s?

In other cars I've worked with it was not possible to safely add aftermarket speakers with their impedance being around 4ohms vs the stock speakers which were 8ohm and in many case 10ohm if they were BOSE

With the lower the impedance rating, that means more juice will be sucked out of the stock amp, therefore making it run hotter, so I'm looking for input from folks that have modified their existing bose setup in their car or actually anybody that has installed a aftermarket HU in a 96-99 Bonneville that had bose. Either or I'm looking for input.

I, personally, have seen Bose speakers be 2 ohm as well.

At work, I have tried to just add speakers, it doesn't work, and definately doesn't sound good, at all. You can buy little convertor boxes if you decide to add in an aftermarket deck that work alright, but really, Bose isn't that great. I'd just replace everything at once, along with bypassing the amp by running new wire.

actually Taters, an aftermarket HU, with the stock speakers being powered by the Stock BOSE amp sound really good. Boosts car has this setup, and i like the sound

I'm not intersted in going the components route on the car, I'd have to spend $500 for a decent 4 channel amp and 2 sets of components......I'm looking for a cheap improvment in sound, trying to figure if I can drop in regular aftermarket 4 ohm speakers no problem.

I run the stock BOSE speakers and amp with my Kenwood and it sounds much better than the stock HU.

Spud... search on me and Aftermarket HU

You'll find my install into the 95 which then landed in the 97. You've seen and heard my setup. Low cost from the perspective that it's an HU and wiring harness adapter. I'm happy with it and that's all that matters. No speaker issues etc. and I've got MP3 reading CD drive and external inputs etc.
