My idea is that I could get some of those JL 6 inch subs, and put those where the 5 1/4s were and put my component 5 1/4s where the tweeters are, then put the component tweeters in the A pillar. This would involve a lot of modification but it should have good midbass. I am planning on building a crossover to work with the subs and run the 3 way system off an amp.

it would work.. but not very well. Do you have aftermarket 5 1/4 right now? My mom'* VW has the monsoon audio [250watts], and it has great mid-bass.. from her 5 1/4 in the door. The doors vibrate.. no matter the volume, and there is some plastic vibration noise from the door panel. So, just an example.. you may not need a sub in the door. If you did, you would have some SERIOUS vibration issues.. because with the factory audio, my doors vibrate a little.. so there is definatly a problem there. Maybe if you had some sound deadening [sp?] in the doors.. and some sort of rubber beizel around the sub to soak up a lot of the vibrations.. that may work for you. But, I don't think it'* necessary IMO.

The rattling would probably be pretty bad... so far I have my component speakers in the doors, but the current plan I have is to put 6x9s in the doors in place of the 5 1/4s and hook them up to my component crossovers and tweeters(use the 6x9 drivers as the mids). I will be putting in subs eventually but I like to have crisp midbass. I want to have the best front soundstage that I can get with what I have (virtually no money)

ever had your dash apart? I'll give you some better suggestions. But I first want to know if you've had your dash off.

I have never had my dash off, but soon Ive got to fix the odometer. I have the performance sound option, so there are no speakers in the dash. I would like to keep the speakers in the doors.

Well.. I was thinking, there is a little bit of room under the dash on the passenger'* side.. nothing on the driver'* side though. But, you could probably fit a 6" sub.. and have it mount to the firewall, so you could have a little less vibrations.. but that probably wouldn't be any better.

You have the cutouts for the 4x6s in the dash, which you could easily put in some 4x6s, or what I would suggest, is to fab up something to mount a tweeter or two.. so you don't have to do anything on the A-Pillar, you keep the stock appearance [the small fabric covers will keep it hiding].

If I were you, I would stick with the 5 1/4 in the door.. and when you make the crossover for them.. send them some lows.. nothing over the top, but keep it on the lower side.. get the lowest and highest rating of the speakers you buy, and keep it in the 50% low side [I think it'* rated in hertz.. but I don't know for sure]. Put in some aftermarket 3.5'* and 6x9s.

You have over 1000watts of bass sitting in your trunk [or at least planning to have sitting in your trunk]. You may be bombarded with bass.. and you may not like the sound. Bass isn't everything.. yes it'* cool, but you need an equal mix of highs, mids, and lows, otherwise you won't have the ultimate in sound. Like, on the factory audio, i am lacking the lows.. I have good mids, and great highs.. but nothing to speak of for the lows, and so, my music doesn't sound the best.

Of course though, it is your car, and you can install anything you want, where you want it. It is just a matter of how much money, and time you want to spend on it.

I'm not sure what you mean.... the speakers that Im going to use have a mid and tweeter with a seperate crossover that came with it. If I were to build a sub crossover I would use a low pass for the sub and a high pass for the midrange and tweeter components.

One thing that I am working away from is having crappy loud bass. I want the music to actually sound good. The reason I want to go overkill (for the loudness that I want) on my system is because you can always turn it down In the rear I am comtamplating about putting good 3 1/2 inch speakers and removing the 6x9s completely and covering the holes with fabric, so that the bass will be a bit louder and possibly wont rattle the sheet metal in the trunk so much. I want to use only one sub when I am done because two takes way too much room, and 1000watts is more than I need. Also so I wont waste money on a huge amp.

I would suggest an 8 in midbass if possible. Reason being is that a 5 1/4 and a 6 inch will cover nearly the same frequencies. If you have an 8 inch, you can cross over the subs at 80hz, have the 8 inch play 80hz-250hz, the 5 1/4 play 250hz-3900hz or whatever the crossover is set at on the components, then the tweeter hits anything above. If you have a 6 inch, it will not produce the lower frequencies as well, and most likely it would be better to set the crossover point higher. Most aftermarket three-way setups include a 8" | 5 1/4" | tweeter or a 6 1/2" | 4" | tweeter setup.

Thats basically what i was thinking, but I think that since the 6 inch subs are designed as subwoofers and not woofers that they may play a bit lower than a regular 6 inch driver. Right now I am just brainstorming so that when it comes time to take my interior apart i know what i want.

Don't put 6x9'* in the front! They''re oval shapped, and not as strong as a normal circular conical speaker. They'll flex more, giving you distorted sound!
