yes, in that case you would use the RCA outputs for the rear speakers for your subs. There should be a option in the menu to set it to be subs and not rear speakers.

Even if theres no way to change the Pre amp output to Sub you should be all set. The pre amp sends voltage, not frequency. Thats what the Amps crosover or filters are for.

Heres some more specs on the HU your looking at.

Post your head unit manufacturer and model so we can determine if it comes with any outputs. My pioneer premier dph 520 has front/rear rcas and sub rcas built in.

it may send voltage but HU have the ability to filter freq. also. SO technically it could be filtered for 80hz or above for example. Not likely though.

From my experience with pioneers/other HU, you can switch the rear RCA to be either for the rear speakers or subs. That pioneer he linked should be the same

nuclearxp: the model is in the link in his post

I was just saying that the stereo he linked to in his post, doesnt have the feature, because I looked it up on Crutchfield, then posted it.

I know about the Frequency Filtering through the HU since both my Alpine and Pioneer have it.

I was just trying to show that if the Preamp can not be selected from rear to sub, then he would still be good on the purchase and it would work with his amp set up.

Now that HU has the filtering capabilities.

high-pass and low-pass filters - subwoofer level control
Specs: http://www.crutchfield.com/*-NWS4bPW...Sony+CDXCA810X

Manuals and documentation in case you need them.

One thing to note about the filtering capabilities (not sure if anyone clarified this yet) is that i'm fairly sure that the prefiltering capabilities only apply to the rca pre-outs, thats how it is on my cd player. the regular speaker outputs are only modifiable by the equalization curves. if you're that concerned about bass reaching your component speakers, look into aftermarket speaker & tweeter combos with a crossover or just an inline speaker crossover.
