Default Which Subwoofers.

OK. It'* tax time, so therefore I am getting subs and an amp. Currently I have a JVC
KD-S680 head unit. I am wanting to know which subs I should get. I'm thinkin about JL 10 or 12 W3'*, Alpine 10 or 12 Type R, or some kind of MA Audio. Which do subs do you think would be the best. I think I am going to get a Kicker amp, but I'm not sure what size yet. I will be buying the stuff off ebay, so it just depends on what they have when my refind comes in.

I'll hit JL, but I think both JL and Alpine are on the same page. I'd avoid MA audio at all costs.....

I voted JL because of obvious reasons. I'm sure Andy'll be in here with the alpine button on. Pick whichever works best in your budget, you likes, and your music.

yep........here i am and i turned the alpine button on!

for rap and hip hop i'd go with the alpine (basically as a good overall sub) over the JL for excursion reasons. the bigger 1" Santoprene Rubber surround on the alpine obviously hits the low frequencies better (24 - 1k Hz ). xmax = 13.87mm

the JL 12w3-D4 Xmax is (one-way, linear): 11.8mm.

I don't know, JL does make some pretty nice subs. I just always looked for rubber surrounds, a little higher power handling, and a sub that plays pretty low for my mostly rap and hiphop collection.

I'd say the Alpine 12 first, with the JL in a close second. MA didn't even finish the race!

Yeah, alpine for more rap, JL if you want something that'* a little quicker sounds about right.

I always liked rubber surrounds, but my SL are unfalliable... Meh. I was considering alpine, but i got a deal from a cool guy on the boards here...

That'* a good choice Alpine for Rap and you won't be disappointed. My buddy has 1 12 type R in a Jetta and that thing pounds quite nice. Not sure on how many watts he'* giving it, do know that it'* powered by a older 5 channel Phoniex Gold Amp. That was in a sealed box, one day he built a slot port for it and it was CRAZY loud, but was too much bass and sloppy, not as tight and as accurate as the sealed, he switched it back to the sealed box. He loves it. Enjoy, moral of the story, get a sealed box.

You got me thinking about my linear excersion, looked it up JL 10 w7 is 23mm
