Head Unit Compatability
The h/u display on my 04 sle is burned out, im no good with a solder iron so dont want to attempt repairs myself. i am planning on connecting an ipod into it,dont need xm service. so heres the options im looking at.
1. repair existing use standard ipod connection for the bonne
2. find a donor h/u from a newer vehicle to switch out and get better connectivity, i.e being able to use the pxamg from periphreal.. it looks like most of the newer gm h/u would work
so if i decide to do option 2 would it be plug and play or would i need to do some adjustments?
right now im looking at a h/u out of a 08 g.p or a 09 torrent

Nope, won't work. The Bonneville was only ever made with the Class 2 serial data bus. The newer vehicles all use the GMLAN Bus. This, not to mention that the mounting is entirely different and I believe the newer head units are also bigger (taller).

So if it'* just light bulbs there may be a solution. I'd offer to help you out but getting it back and forth across the border is more difficult and costly than it would be worth. I know someone a lot closer to you that may be willing to do this. I don't know what the cost would be but I'll ask if you like. You would just need to send either the radio or the faceplate and it would be returned with new bulbs. He wouldn't be able to help with the iPod input though. This can be done but it'* more work than he can do.
