Alpine Headunit (NOW WITH PICS stay away 56k)
Pics are down low at the bottom of the thread.
I just bought a bonneville from PrincessJeanie on the forums here. I bought it knowing that the headunit is shot pretty much. I was looking to get an Alpine unit, and the CDM-9823 caught my eye when I was at circuit city. I liked it because it was not too cheap, not too expensive, looked good, and I have heard lots of good things about Alpine. I have a some connections that got me a great quote for getting one installed at a local audio store. I can get it for $159 out the door for the unit, and everything to install it, and have it installed. This makes me very happy because at circuit city it is $179 for just the headunit. Now my question for you. I know its a great deal, but how good is this headunit. Has anyone heard anything good/bad? Any better suggestions? Just FYI, in the future I plan to get an amp and maybe just a single 10" sub. Nothing to powerful, just something for a little more kick. Is this headunit a good place to start, or do I need something a little better? Thanks a lot.[ |
Yeah thats a real nice deal youve got there :P Ive heard good things about Alpine but Ive never owned one before. IMO a head unit its THE place to start when you are building a stereo. It has way better sound quality and more power, and if you want to add amps and subs later it makes the process much easier and the overall result will be dramatically better. Next I'de say small sub, and then speakers and then amps and etc etc in that order.

circuitcity.com has reviews on their products, that one got a 4.5/5 alpines are always good, i have the CDA-9813? looking back i now wish i had bought a cheaper model, i wa splanning on a kikass system and then later dicided that bostons and kickers werent worth the money, so i got a high end head unit and everytihng else is standard, if your has mp3 playback try to keep the filename down to just the artist and song title, the display isnt really made to show long filenames, and divide ur stuff into fodlers make sit a hell of alot easier to browse

Shot was one word for it....stupid thing :). Hey good luck with all of this Logan-and take care of that car. |
Not an expert on head units but alpine does make good compents.
Glad the car could still stay in the club and good choice  |
As with anything, try it out first. Go to circuit city, best buy, walmart. Listen to everything on the same pair of speakers and pic something that fits your needs, not what everyone else tells you to get. Something might sound great but have terrible controls, for example. Try it out first. Then look where you can get it cheapest :)
On a side note, Alpines generally sound great, but I don't have much to say about the display designs (cotrols and colors). |
i LOVED my alpine... great deck!

Ok. Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will be getting it either friday or early next week. If your lucky I will get some pics of the finished product....as well as a pic of my most recent waxing job :D

Sorry about the double post, but I feel that this thread needs pics.
I think the alpine is looking good in there. Got it installed last friday, and pretty much have no serious complaints. Pros: sounds great and i think i am getting better bass hits on the stock 6x9s. Cons: display could be brighter, and the green buttons look better at night than in the day time Needless to say, I LOVE IT. Attachment 78376 Attachment 78377 |
looks good, is that model capable of changing the colors of the buttons?? I know some alpine have that feature
