Swap stock cassette for stock CD?
Possibly an old, worn out question here... but please bear with me. Unfortunately my recently-purchased '98 SLE came with the stock cassette head unit installed. Of course I want to change this over to a CD player, and I'd like to keep a stock unit so I don't lose the steering wheel controls. I'm also trying to keep costs low here... my competition-grade stereo is in my other car, and the days are long gone when I can drop high dollars on stereo equipment!
Can my stock cassette deck simply be swapped for a stock CD deck from another '98 (or other years)? Someone wrote in another thread that the same stereos were used in all 1992 - 1999 Bonnies. Can someone verify that? TechInfo had a topic on converting 92-93 cassette decks to CD decks from 94-95 models... but I couldn't find anything on later models. TIA -

No, a 92-93 player won't work without modifications. You can use a CD player from the 94-99 Bonneville, or from another Pontiac if it looks just like the 94-99 Bonneville CD player, including some Pontiac models up to 2001.
