Default stereo in a 99 ssei

i just finished hooking up a dvd player in my car and everything works except there is no sound. i am wondering if this has anything to do with the factory amp.

also there is a single orange wire on the factory radio that is not with the rest of the harness. i am not sure what it is. the only thing i can think of is the illumination wire.

please let me know if u can help.

Thats the wire that turns on the amplifiers in the car. Connect that to the "System Remote Line" on your dvd-player. If its not labeled "system remote" it should be a blue wire with a white stripe thats designated to turning on amplifiers when the player comes on

Well that would make sense why there is no sound. This dvd player has no system remote line.

Im thinking of just hooking it up to the ignition wire?

Almost any aftermarket unit has a system remote line. Please post the dvd player model you have or a link to its specifications and we'd be able to help better.

it could be labeled as a power antenna line also

giving us some model numbers of this DVD player, status of what you have done to your stock system, and any/every other piece of relative information would help greatly.

i'm wondering if my amplifier turns on from the power antenna lead, because i wired the system remote control wire to my power antenna wire, and my gain still worked wihout any additional wires...

you have send a signal to the factory amp with an aftermarket HU to turn on, if you dont (and it seems that you didnt) you get no sound

could it be that the head unit you bought has no internal amplifier? i know a lot of the high end cd players and many in dash DVDs dont have any power at all, you have to run it all through a separate amp. not saying you dont know your stuff, sometimes that gets overlooked though.

I know some pioneer dvd players come with a control unit that houses the amp and tv tuner controls. often that has to be mounted seperately in the trunk or under a seat.
