Just keep in mind that your steering wheel controls won't work unless you get a HU w/IR remote and an adapter for the wheel buttons. Plus you will loose your door chimes and RAP unless you get another adapter. Then there is the stuff with OnStar to watch too. If money isn't the driving force, you can probably keep all the extra functions, it will be an extra $200-$250 (in addition to the HU).

Not necessarily, I've had OEM radios that had excellent tuners. Every OEM radio I've replaced kicked a$$ on the aftermarket tuner.

A tuner isn't even close to what makes a good radio though.
-CD player with data mp3 capiability
-much better EQ
-aux inputs
-RCA outputs

Personally I haven't listened to the radio for more than an hour since I got my aftermarket HU, because I cant stand the poor quality of FM/AM.

The HU can have a wired remote input also, for the steering wheel controls to work. It doesn't have to be wireless.
